Wichita State Earns Fifth Consecutive Win

Tommy Barnhouse tallied a career-high nine strikeouts as Wichita State (6-2) defeated the Kansas State Wildcats, 2-1, Wednesday, Feb. 26, at Eck Stadium, Home of Tyler Field. It was the fifth straight victory for the Shockers.
 
Barnhouse (1-0), a senior from Lansing, Kan., earned his first win on the mound in 2020 after throwing 5 2/3 scoreless innings, allowing no earned runs on just three hits with one walk, going along with his career-best nine Ks. Reliever Connery Peters, a sophomore from Crowley, Texas, secured his first-career save after tossing a scoreless ninth inning with one strikeout.
 
Sophomores David VanVooren and Jack Sigrist both went 2-for-4 at the plate, with VanVooren also posting a double, while freshman Cade Clemons belted his second home run of the season, pacing WSU offensively.

No. 6 Miami (Fla.) 7, USF 5 - Box Score
USF battled to tie it late but fell to No. 6 Miami on the road Wednesday, 7-5. The Bulls (2-7) came out of the gates firing in the top of the first inning. Carmine Lane would belt his first career homer to left center, scoring Dontae Mitchell to make it 2-0.
 
The Hurricanes (5-3) would answer back with five unanswered runs through the next five innings to lead, 5-2. Nick Gonzalez drove a ball to deep right field in the top of the sixth inning, scoring Dylan Buck to cut the Miami lead to, 5-3.
 
JD Dutka would tie the game in the top of the seventh with a two-run homer to center, scoring Lane. Raymond Gil would spoil the Bulls comeback with a walk-off homer and end the chance of an upset.

New Orleans 10, No. 29 Tulane 1 - Box Score
No. 29 Tulane fell to the New Orleans Privateers 10-1 Wednesday night at Greer Field at Turchin Stadium, dropping the first game of the 2020 Pelican Cup in-season series.
 
New Orleans (5-4) exploded for nine runs over the course of three innings, plating four runs in the second, three runs in the third and two runs in the fourth. The Green Wave (6-2) struggled offensively, producing a run on five hits in the contest, while the Privateers produced 15 hits on the night, scoring one more run in the eighth.
