03.20.20

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Three players from the UConn women’s basketball program were recognized as 2020 Associated Press All-Americans, the AP announced on Thursday. Megan Walker claimed All-America First-Team honors for the Huskies, while Crystal Dangerfield and Olivia Nelson-Ododa secured Honorable Mention All-America accolades.

Walker became the seventh AP first-team representative from UConn since the 2013-14 season, joining Breanna Stewart (2014-16), Moriah Jefferson (2016), Napheesa Collier (2017 and 2019) and Katie Lou Samuelson (2017-18). The 2020 American Athletic Conference Player of the Year, Walker led the conference by scoring 19.7 points per game over 32 games this season. Walker was also among the league’s top 10 in 3-point field goal percentage (45.1, first), field goal percentage (47.7, second), free throw percentage (82.1, third) and rebounds per game (8.4, sixth). She earned Most Outstanding Player honors at the American Women’s Basketball Championship after averaging 21.3 points and 6.7 rebounds per contest for UConn as the Huskies won their seventh straight conference tournament title.

Dangerfield claimed honorable mention plaudits from the AP for the second straight year after tallying 15.0 points per game, 3.9 assists per game and a 46.4 field goal percentage in 30 games played. She ranked second in The American behind Walker by shooting 41.4 percent from beyond the arc, and 1.8 steals per contest. Dangerfield was named to the American Women’s Basketball Championship All-Tournament Team, scoring 16.3 points per game for the Huskies on the way to a conference tournament triumph.

Nelson-Ododa earned All-America status for the first time in her career after the sophomore forward tallied a career-high 10.9 points, 8.5 rebounds and 3.1 blocked shots per game in 32 appearances. Nelson-Ododa was just the fourth player in conference history to average in excess of 3.0 blocks per game, joining Stewart (3.1, 2015-16), Rutgers’ Rachel Hollivay (3.5, 2013-14) and UConn’s Kiah Stokes (3.8, 2014-15).
