PROVIDENCE, R.I.—Four American Athletic Conference baseball student-athletes have been named Freshman All-Americans by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper. ECU’s C.J. Mayhue, Tulane’s Luke Janetta, UConn’s Reggie Crawford and Wichita State’s Couper Cornblum were all honored.
An outfielder for the Shockers, Cornblum hit a team-best .354 with eight extra-base hits and drove in 12 runs. He also stole seven bases and drew a team-best 13 walks.
Crawford, a first baseman for the Huskies, hit .365 with seven doubles, one home run and 16 RBI. He hit safely in 11 of the 13 games.
Jannetta made seven appearances for the Green Wave, earning a 3-0 record and a 1.37 ERA with one save. He struck out 16 batters in 19.2 innings of work and did not allow a run in six of seven appearances.
Mayhue made eight relief appearances for the Pirates and finished with a 1-0 record and a 0.56 ERA. He struck out 19 batters and allowed just one earned run in 16.0 innings.
