IRVING, Texas – The volleyball head coaches who comprise the American Athletic Conference membership have combined to sponsor a diversity award candidate in conjunction with the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA).
 
All 11 coaches from The American are putting forth a collective $1,000 donation as part of the 2020 AVCA Diversity Awards Program, which provides the opportunity for up-and-coming ethnic minority volleyball coaches to attend the annual AVCA Convention. The contribution will directly benefit a former volleyball student-athlete from The American pursuing a career in volleyball coaching.
 
The Diversity Awards program is the next phase in the evolution of the AVCA's diversity initiatives and minority coach development programming. Since 2002, the AVCA has been intentional with targeted programming designed to assist ethnic minority coaches in gaining access to the coaching profession and advance in their coaching careers. The AVCA Diversity Development Team has developed this award to continue the AVCA’s vision for creating opportunities and advancing the volleyball coaching profession. The award consists of a full AVCA Convention registration and five nights lodging for the winners.
