IRVING, Texas – Commissioner Mike Aresco has announced the names of the 3,299 student-athletes who have been selected to the 2019-20 American Athletic Conference All-Academic Team as well as the winners of The American’s Team Academic Excellence Awards.
Nominations for the All-Academic Team are submitted by each of the American Athletic Conference’s member institutions. To be eligible for the honor, a nominee must have competed in an American Athletic Conference-sponsored sport, attained a minimum grade-point average of 3.00 for the preceding academic year, and completed a minimum of two consecutive semesters or three consecutive quarters of academic work, with a total of 18 semester or 27 quarter credits, not including remedial courses.
The nominations are reviewed and approved by the American Athletic Conference Academic Affairs Committee. The total of 3,299 honorees shatters the previous conference record of 2,836 selections from last season.
The Team Academic Excellence Award selections are made by the conference’s faculty athletics representatives. The winning teams were chosen based on the 2019-20 grade-point average of each student-athlete who appeared on an institution’s roster at the end of the academic year, weighing each student’s GPA by credit-hour completed.
SMU won the Team Academic Excellence award in men’s swimming and diving for the seventh consecutive season, while Cincinnati’s football program was honored for the fifth consecutive year.
