DALLAS - SMU quarterback Tanner Mordecai threw for 287 yards and four more touchdowns as the Mustangs improved to 5-0 with a 41-17 win against South Florida Saturday at Gerald J. Ford Stadium.

Mordecai's four touchdowns give him 24 TD passes through five games - by far the most among NCAA FBS players. He has thrown at least four TD passes in every game this season.

The Mustangs pulled away from what had been a 27-17 lead with a pair of fourth-quarter touchdowns as Mordecai hit Danny Gray from four yards out with 9:32 left and again from five yards with 5:09 to play.

Gray finished with seven receptions for 74 yards and the two late touchdowns, while Rashee Rice had seven catches for 57 yards and a score.

South Florida's freshman quarterback, Timmy McClain, was 14-of-22 for 223 yards, while running back Jaren Mangham had two rushing touchdowns.
