UCF opened the new season 1-0 with a 68-39 home win over Duquesne in Orlando.
 
Diamond Battles and Ahna Burney shared the team lead with 16 points each for UCF. Battles hit 4-of-6 shots from behind the arc and added in five rebounds and three steals. Masseny Kaba added 11 points, nine rebounds, two blocked shots and two steals for the Knights.
 
Middle Tennessee 70, East Carolina 49
 
East Carolina finished on the wrong end of a 70-49 decision at Middle Tennessee to kick off the 2021-22 season.
 
Taniyah Thompson’s 11 points led the way for ECU in defeat. Thompson also logged a team-high four steals during the setback.
 
Houston 80, Howard 48
 
Houston rolled in its debut game of the season, dropping Howard by a final score of 80-48 at home.
 
Dymond Gladney led a balanced Houston offensive attack with 13 points and added four rebounds. Tatyana Hill turned in seven points and eight rebounds Laila Blair posted eight points, five rebounds and four steals.
 
Memphis 84, Xavier 64
 
Memphis earned a big win in the debut for head coach Katrina Meriweather on the Tigers bench, taking down Xavier by an 84-64 final score.
 
Jamirah Shutes turned in 15 points, seven boards and two blocks in the win for Memphis. Alana Davis and Emani Jefferson both tied with 13 points for the Tigers.
 
No. 21/22 South Florida 63, UTRGV 56
 
Defending American champion South Florida picked up a 63-56 win over UTRGV in the season-opener for the No. 21/22 Bulls in Tampa.
 
Elena Tsineke shot .500 from the field (8-for-16) to lead USF with 18 points. Sydni Harvey turned in 13 points and Bethy Mununga narrowly missed a double-double with nine points and 18 boards for the Bulls.
 
SMU 75, Kansas City 63
 
Toyelle Wilson won her debut game as the head coach of SMU, as the Mustangs took down Kansas City by a 75-63 final score.
 
Danielle Sanderlin scored a game-high 20 points in just 21 minutes to power the SMU offense. Savannah Wilkinson logged 10 points and 10 rebounds in the win, and Jasmine Smith logged seven points and eight assists for the Mustangs.
 
Temple 73, Saint Francis (Pa.) 53
 
Temple cruised to a 73-53 win over Saint Francis (Pa.) on opening night in Philadelphia to move to 1-0 on the season.
 
Jiselle Thomas hit seven of 11 shot attempts to lead all Temple scorers with 20 points, adding four rebounds and three steals. Mia Davis scored 18 points with four boards and Alexa Williamson chipped in eight points and three rebounds for the Owls.
 
Tulane 66, Southeastern Louisiana 58
 
Tulane claimed a hard-fought home victory against Southeastern Louisiana, taking the win 66-58.
 
Dynah Jones went for a team-high 16 points with five rebounds and three steals for the Green Wave. Moon Ursin finished with 15 points and eight rebounds in her Tulane debut, and Krystal Freeman filled the stat sheet with 12 points, eight boards, three steals and three blocks.
 
Wichita State 78, Chicago State 34
 
Wichita State enjoyed a 25-2 lead after the first quarter and never looked back in coasting to a 78-34 win over Chicago State.
 
Four Shockers finished in double figures in scoring, led by Mariah McCully with 13 points. Asia Strong contributed 10 points and seven rebounds for Wichita State.
