Tulsa 69, Austin Peay 61

Maya Mayberry scored a team-best 20 points, while Wyvette Mayberry added 17, Maddie Bittle had 13 and Rebecca Lescay scored 10 to lead Tulsa to a 69-61 win over Austin Peay on Saturday afternoon in the FAU Thanksgiving Tournament at Abessinio Court at FAU Arena in Boca Raton, Fla.  The Golden Hurricane moved to 6-0 on the season, while the Governors fell to 3-3 overall.
 
"I am so proud of this team and their balanced attack and what they do offensively," Head Coach Angie Nelp said.  "We did some good things in the first half, but we knew it was going to take all of us.  I love that we all play together.  The fight that this team has, there are moments that we know we are tired, but we are working hard, and we dug a little deeper at the end to get the win."
 
Tulsa had a 13-7 lead in steals and a 3-2 edge in blocks, while AP had a 16-12 advantage in assists and both teams had 25 rebounds.
 
Tulsa scored 24 points off turnovers, 38 points in the paint and 14 fast break points, while Austin Peay had 34 points in the paint, 25 points off the bench and 12 points off turnovers.
 
Wyvette Mayberry, Lescay, Temira Poindexter and Delanie Crawford all pulled down four rebounds, while Crawford had four assists, and Bittle, Wyvette Mayberry and Crawford all had three steals, and Poindexter had two blocks.
 
Tulsa and Austin Peay were tied 6-6 at the 5:10 mark of the first quarter, but then the Governors scored the next six points to take a 12-6 advantage with 2:32 to play in the frame.  AP climbed to an 18-10 advantage with just 40-seconds on the clock, but two free throws made by Wyvette Mayberry made it a six point game at the end of the quarter.  Austin Peay shot a solid 53.8-percent from the field, while TU made just 36.4-percent of their attempts in the first 10 minutes.
 
The Governors climbed to a 23-14 lead with 8:05 on the clock in the second quarter, but Tulsa scored 16-straight points to take a 30-23 advantage at the 3:16 mark.  The Golden Hurricane maintained that seven point lead at the break, 38-31. Tulsa shot 71-percent from the field, including 75-percent from three-point range, in the second quarter and Maya Mayberry went into halftime with 18 points to lead all scorers.
 
Tulsa continued to inch ahead in the third quarter, owning a 14-point lead (51-37) with 4:12 on the clock, but AP scored the next eight-straight points to pull to within six, 51-45, with 1:30 to play in the frame.  TU owned a five-point lead heading into the final quarter, 53-48.  The Golden Hurricane shot 38.5-percent from the field in the frame, while the Governors shot 63.6-percent.
 
TU scored six points on layups to take an 11-point lead (59-48) at the 6:12 mark and held AP scoreless until Nina De Leon Negron hit a three-pointer with 4:02 to play in the contest.  The Governors inched back into the game, cutting their deficit to just four, 63-59, with 1:30 to play.  A layup by Lescay, a pair of made free throws made by Maya Mayberry and a pair of free throws made by Wyvette Mayberry gave TU a 69-61 win.
 
Karle Pace scored a team-best 16 points for the Governors, while Yamia Johnson added 11 points.  Lyric Cole had six rebounds, while Pace had five assists, and Ella Sawyer had four steals.

No. 6/8 Baylor 74, Houston 58

Laila Blair recorded a career-high 28 points in the final game of the Cancun Challenge as Houston lost to No. 6 Baylor 74-58 on Saturday afternoon.
 
Blair's 28 points led all shooters as she scored six 3-pointers to go with three rebounds, one assist and one steal. Bria Patterson also scored in double-digits contributing 10 points with four rebounds and one assist
 
The Cougars came out hot, going on a 10-2 run to open up the game.  Blair scored 10-points in the first quarter including a 3-pointer to give Houston a 17-14 lead to end the first quarter.
 
In the second quarter, Houston managed to hold on to its 3-point lead for the beginning of the quarter. However, the Cougars were unable to stop Baylor's pressure and the Bears went on a 10-0 run to close out the quarter, 34-27.
 
Houston was unable to connect coming out of halftime as Baylor scored nine unanswered points going up 43-27 and the Bears finished the quarter ahead 51-32.
 
In the fourth quarter, Houston found their rhythm as Blair led the charge. The Cougars went on a 15-3 run with eight points coming from Blair. However, it was too late as the Bears took the win 74-58.

Temple 68, Villanova 62

The Temple women's basketball (3-3, 0-0) won a tightly-contested affair over the Villanova Wildcats (2-3, 0-0) on Saturday afternoon, 68-62. A back and forth contest throughout the entire contest, the Owls pulled away with under a minute remaining thanks to a jump shot by freshman Aniya Gourdine and a block from forward Alexa Williamson on the other end.
 
Gourdine: 17 points, 5-6 shooting, four rebounds, four assists. Williamson: 16 points, 50% shooting. Jalynn Holmes: team-high six rebounds
 
An 8-0 run to begin the game got the Wildcats out in front in the early goings of the game. The Owls answered back with an 11-2 run of their own highlighted by a three-pointer from Emani Mayo as well as a coast-to-coast steal and layup by Jasha Clinton. Freshman Gourdine knocked down two three-pointers, one at the end of the quarter, to tie the game at the end of the quarter.
 
A 9-4 run through the first four minutes of the second quarter brought the Wildcats back out in front. Six points by forward Williamson helped the Owls dominate the paint in the quarter. An offensive rebound and subsequent put back by freshman Tiarra East at the buzzer brought the Owls within one going into the break.
 
Four straight points from Mia Davis put the Owls in the lead, and shortly after, back-to-back three-pointers from Caranda Perea and Jasha Clinton stretched Temple's lead to nine. Both teams suffered through a three-minute scoring drought midway through the quarter. A layup by Williamson ended Villanova's 8-0 run with a few minutes left remaining in the period.
 
A 6-0 run in the first two minutes of the quarter gave the Wildcats a 54-48 advantage. A Clinton three-pointer trimmed the Villanova lead before two free throws by Williamson tied the game again at 58 with four minutes remaining. After Gourdine drained a long two-point jump shot with just under two minutes remaining, a block by Williamson virtually sealed the game for the Owls.

Tulane (RV) 81, Corpus Christi 71

Tulane University women's basketball rode an impressive double-double from Moon Ursin for an 81-71 victory over Texas A&M – Corpus Christi on Saturday to go 2-0 in the Pioneer Thanksgiving Classic.
 
Ursin led the Green Wave with her second double-double of the season as she finished with 22 points and 13 rebounds. The redshirt senior finished just two assists shy of a triple-double in the contest adding eight dimes to her stat sheet.
 
Three other players posted double figures in the scoring column for Tulane. Dynah Jones posted 16 points on 5-of-7 shooting while Kaila Anderson added 13 points and four assists. Mia Heide rounded out the top scorers for the Wave with 11 points and eight boards.
 
As a team Tulane outrebounded the Islanders 42-34 and took advantage of points in transition with 20 fastbreak points in the contest. The Green Wave also shot 95 percent from the charity stripe knocking down 19-of-20 from the free throw line.
 
After a slow start to the opening quarter, Tulane rattled off 12-unanswered points sparked by seven straight points by Ursin to take the lead. The Green Wave held the Islanders to just 20.8 percent shooting from the field while knocking down 53.8 percent of its shots on the other end. At the end of the first quarter, the Wave held a 16-13 advantage over Texas A&M – Corpus Christi.
 
The Green Wave used the free throw line and the deep ball to extend its lead in the second quarter. Jones, Anderson and Ursin each knocked down a triple in the frame while Tulane went 8-of-8 from the charity stripe. The Wave reached its largest lead at 35-24 with 2:27 to play, but the Islanders closed the half on an 11-0 run thanks to the sharp shooting of Annukka Willstedt who got a layup to fall at the buzzer to send the contest to halftime tied 35-35.
 
In the third quarter, Tulane turned the defense up again forcing the Islanders into six turnovers while holding them to just 30.8 percent from the field in the frame. Anderson led the Wave with five points in the quarter as the Olive and Blue outscored Texas A&M – Corpus Christi 18-12 to take a 53-47 lead into the final 10 minutes.
 
The Islanders got the first bucket of the final quarter, but the Green Wave responded by pushing its lead out to as many as 13 points with 3:38 to play. Six different players contributed to the scoring column in the fourth quarter with Jones leading the way with nine points in closing time. The Wave finished with its best shooting quarter of the contest knocking down 60 percent from the field to finish off the Islanders 81-71.
 
Willstedt led Texas A&M – Corpus Christi in the contest scoring 25 points on 7-of-8 from beyond the arc.

SMU 53, Green Bay 43

The SMU women's basketball team put on a defensive clinic Saturday to defeat Green Bay 53-43 Saturday in its final game at the South Point Shootout. Sydne Wiggins was named to the all-tournament team with 16 points against the Phoenix after a career-high 26 points against Seattle.
 
The Mustangs (3-3) allowed just two field goals in the first quarter, jumping out to a 16-8 advantage they would never relinquish, leading wire-to-wire in the win. Green Bay (3-3) shot 14.3 percent from the field in the first 10 minutes as SMU forced five turnovers including three shot-clock violations.
 
On the other end of the floor, SMU shot 42.9 percent to double Green Bay's offensive output. While the two teams were separated by just two points over the final 30 minutes, the Mustangs did not lose a quarter during the contest.
 
Wiggins shot 5-for-11 from the field with four rebounds and three assists. Savannah Wilkinson's record-breaking double-double streak ended at five games as the London native finished with 10 points and nine rebounds. Jasmine Smith scored eight points with six rebounds and three assists, and Reagan Bradley totaled five assists and six points.
 
The Phoenix increased their shooting percentage to 50.0 percent in the second quarter, but SMU still only allowed four field goals while making five, including a pair from outside the arc. The Mustangs won the quarter, 13-12, taking a nine-point lead into the locker room, 29-20.
 
Each team managed just nine points in the third quarter, and SMU outscored Green Bay 15-14 over the final 10 minutes. The Mustangs finished the game with a 34.7 shooting percentage, while limiting the Phoenix to a 28.3 clip overall and 20.0 percent (5-of-25) from behind the arc. SMU went 5-for-15 from 3-point range, and went 14-for-19 at the free-throw line, 73.7 percent.

UCF (RV) 56, USC 47

The UCF women's basketball team rallied for a fourth-quarter comeback to earn a 56-47 win over USC for an undefeated Cancun Challenge performance on Saturday afternoon at the Hard Rock Hotel Riviera Maya.
 
UCF (5-1) chipped away at a nine-point USC (4-2) advantage in the fourth quarter, making its move in the final four minutes. The Knights locked down defensively in the last period, collecting five steals and holding the Trojans to just seven points in the final 10 minutes of game action.
 
Diamond Battles was named the Riviera Division MVP, averaging 18.5 points, 3.5 assists and 2.5 steals per contest. Brittney Smith earned all-tournament honors, averaging
 
The Black and Gold opened the game on a 4-1 spurt, but the Trojans responded to take a 7-6 lead at the end of the first quarter. USC built up a nine-point advantage, 21-12, with just under two minutes left in the first half before baskets from Tay Sanders and Battles cut the Trojans lead to six, 23-17, at halftime.
 
Smith converted a three-point play to open the third period and pull UCF within three, 23-20, but the Trojans were able to keep the edge through the frame, holding a 40-34 lead entering the fourth quarter.
 
A three-pointer from Alissa Pilli put USC ahead 43-34 with 8:56 left to play, but the Black and Gold maintained their composure. Baskets from Destiny Thomas and Sanders pulled the Knights within two, 45-43, with 5:09 remaining.
 
The Trojans hit what turned into their final field goal of the contest to take a four-point 47-43 lead with 4:36.
 
A three-point play from Smith pulled UCF within a point before Alisha Lewis hit a step back jumper to give the Knights a 50-47 lead with 51 seconds remaining.
 
A combination of defensive rebounds from Masseny Kaba and Smith paired with free throws from Lewis and Battles down the stretch led to UCF's 56-47 victory.
 
Diamond Battles led UCF with 13 points, dishing out three assists with two steals. Brittney Smith added 10 points for the Knights. Destiny Thomas pulled down a career-best 12 rebounds to go along with eight points and three steals. Masseny Kaba had nine points with three assists. Tay Sanders finished with eight points, six rebounds and three steals. Alisha Lewis added eight points with three steals.

No. 21/24 Ohio State 86, Cincinnati 50

The University of Cincinnati women's basketball team fell to Ohio State 50-86 Saturday evening at the Covelli Center in Columbus, Ohio.
 
The Bearcats shot 63% from the free throw line, going 10-for-16. Sophomore Jillian Hayes led the way with 16 points. The Bearcats move to 3-3 on the season.
 
UC fell behind early with OSU going on a 9-0 run before junior forward Jadyn Scott got the first points for the Bearcats. 
 
The Bearcats outscored the Buckeyes 15 to 14 in the second quarter, highlighted by back-to-back threes by junior point guard Akira Levy and freshman guard Braylyn Milton. Hayes had a team leading six points with two layups and two made free throws in the quarter.
 
Jillian Hayes had a team leading 16 points, going 4-6 from the free throw line. Akira Levy had her fourth double-digit scoring game of the season with 11 points. Braylyn Milton had nine points in the game, tying her season and career high. Three Bearcats tied for five rebounds in the game: Arame Niang, Hayes, and Clarissa Craig.

Memphis 73, Pennsylvania 68 (OT)

The Tigers put an exclamation point on the end of their week-long trip with the 73-68 overtime win over Penn to cap off the LMU Thanksgiving Classic. Tonight's win marks the team's third win this week and their fourth consecutive win.
 
Following tonight's win, Memphis moves to 6-1 overall.
 
A battle from tip-off, Memphis and Penn traded baskets to open the game.
 
The Tigers and Quakers would go through nine lead changes in the opening 10 minutes of play before Emani Jefferson laid in a bucket to give Memphis the 16-15 lead going into the second quarter.
 
Penn's offense would get a spark in the second period and putting the Tigers down by as much as 10 after Kayla Padilla drained her fourth three-pointer of the quarter. Baskets from Tyler Frierson, Madison Griggs and Hannah Riddick would cut Memphis' deficit to 33-29 going into the break.
 
The Quakers kept control of their lead through the third and most of the fourth quarter before the Memphis offense came charging back.
 
Memphis would get buckets from Coriah Beck, Jatyjia Jones and Alana Davis down the stretch to put the Tigers down one with 16 seconds left in regulation. Emani Jefferson, who was fouled with one second left, went 1-2 from the charity stripe to make it a 60-60 game and send it in to overtime.
 
The Tigers post duo of Davis and Frierson gave Memphis their first four baskets of overtime and put them up 68-62. Penn would add in back-to-back baskets from Kayla Padilla and Marianna Papazoglou to tie the game again, but the finesse of Maya Stovall got the best of the Quaker defense as she made her way through for an easy left-handed layup to give the Tigers the 70-68 advantage.
 
Three combined free throws from Jamirah Shutes and Emani Jefferson in the final 12 seconds of the game sealed the deal for the Tigers as they took the 73-68 win.
 
Shutes (17), Frierson (15), Jefferson (12) and Davis (10) all scored in double figures while Frierson recorded the team's first double-double of the season adding in 12 rebounds.
 
As a team, Memphis shot just under 36% from the field and outrebounded the Quakers 53-38.
