Temple 49, Georgetown 47
The Temple women's basketball team (4-3, 0-0) defeated the Georgetown Hoyas (3-3, 0-0) in a tight contest on Tuesday night. Down by 11 points entering the fourth quarter, the Owls drained four threes in the final period to spark the comeback to win the game.
Forward Mia Davis led the Owls with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Freshman Aniya Gourdine chipped in with eight points and seven rebounds. Sophomore Caranda Perea scored nine fourth-quarter points, draining three three-pointers in the process.
Alabama 71, Memphis 44
Playing in their final road game of the week, the Tigers traveled south to take on the Crimson Tide of Alabama. While the Memphis offense was able to recover in the second half, the Alabama lead was too much for the Tigers to recover from and they suffered the 71-44 loss.
Following tonight's game, Memphis moves to 6-2 overall.
The Alabama offense challenged Memphis' defense, taking an 8-0 lead to open the first quarter and take a lead as large as 14. Along with their offense, the Crimson Tide defense held the Tigers to just 13 points in the first 10 minutes of play. Memphis would face a 25-13 deficit heading into the second quarter.
Memphis struggled to stop the Crimson Tide's offense in the second quarter; Alabama would end up shooting just over 46% from the field while holding the Tigers to five points. Memphis would face the 43-18 deficit going into halftime.
While the Tiger offense came alive in the third and fourth quarters, the Crimson Tide lead was too much for Memphis to recover from and Alabama would go on to take the 71-44 final.
Tyler Frierson led the way for the Tigers with 10 points while Madison Griggs, Jamirah Shutes and Jatyjia Jones all added in eight points each. Lanetta Williams led the charge on the boards for Memphis tonight with seven rebounds.
