IRVING, Texas--South Florida All-American Sydny Nasello was selected in the second round of the 2022 NWSL College Draft Saturday, Dec. 18.
Nasello was picked by the Portland Thorns with the first pick of the second round (13th overall). She is the second student-athlete from South Florida to be taken in the NWSL Draft after Evelyne Viens was picked fifth overall in 2020.
Nasello, who is the program's second-ever two-time All-American, helped lead the Bulls over the last four seasons to four American Athletic Conference championships, earning a title in each season she was on the team. Overall, she scored 24 goals and tallied 28 assists for 76 points in her 71 games wearing green and gold.
In addition to leading USF in all scoring categories in both of the last two years, Nasello finished her collegiate career with multiple top-10 finishes in the program record books. She currently ranks tied for first in assists, third in assists per game (0.394), fourth in points per game (1.07), shots (214) and shots per game (3.014), fifth in points and seventh in goals and goals per game (0.338).
The Land O' Lakes, Fla., native was named a United Soccer Coaches first-team All-American in 2020 and a second-team All-American in 2021. She also was voted the American Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Year in both 2020 and 2021, and was named to all-conference teams in all four years she was on campus.
