Temple Soars Past Delaware in Season-Opener Saturday

02.20.21

Temple was the lone American Athletic Conference team in action Saturday as the Owls were sharp from the outset in a win against Delaware.

TEMPLE 17, DELAWARE 10
NEWARK, Del. -- Midfielder Mackenzie Roth scored four goals and assisted on two others as Temple opened its season with a  17-10 win at Delaware Saturday.

Roth was one of four Temple players with hat tricks on the afternoon as Belle Mastropietro, Bridget Whitaker and Kara Nakrasius had three goals each. Gabrielle Kirsch and Meghan Hoffman both had three assists as Temple broke open a 3-3 tie with a six-goal run in the first half to effectively put the game away.

The Owls took a 10-5 lead into halftime and scored the first five goals of the second half as Kirsch's finish of a Hoffman feed made it 15-5 with 15:23 to play.

Temple finished with a 32-15 advantage in shots and a 21-8 edge in draw controls. Courtney Taylor led the defensive effort with four caused turnovers and three ground balls.

Temple has won five of its last six games dating to last season. The Owls are scheduled to play their home opener Friday against Villanova on ESPN+.
