HOUSTON – Houston Baseball capped a strong weekend, closing a three-game sweep of Texas Southern with a 14-4 victory from Don Sanders Field at Darryl & Lori Schroeder Park on Sunday afternoon.
Junior Steven Rivas (3-for-4) collected three of Houston's 10 hits and reached base four times while sophomore Ian McMillan (1-for-4) struck a grand slam and accounted for five RBIs. The Cougars (3-0) plated six runs in the third and jumped out to an 8-0 advantage.
The Cougars batted .354 (35-for-99) on the weekend, clubbing five home runs along 10 doubles. Houston pitching limited Texas Southern to a .183 average alongside 2.33 ERA.
Eight Houston student-athletes contributed a hit including Tyler Bielamowicz who added two RBIs. Junior Ryan Hernandez drew two walks and plated three runs alongside an RBI. Andrew Papantonis (1-for-4) added another RBI while Samuel Benjamin (1-for-2) plated two runs.

GREENVILLE, N.C. – Making his first career start on the mound, Carson Whisenhunt struck out a career-high 10 batters over four innings, while his offense pounded out 12 hits as No. 13 East Carolina completed the weekend series sweep over Rhode Island Sunday afternoon at Lewis Field inside Clark-LeClair Stadium, 12-4.
Whisenhunt, who is the first freshman starter with 10 or more punchouts in a game since Jake Agnos in 2017, allowed two runs (both earned) on three hits and walked one with his double-digit strikeout performance. After the Rams (0-3) leadoff hitter reached on an error in the first, he then struck out the side and the first two batters in the second frame (five-straight). The lefty fanned the last two hitters in the third stanza and then the side in the fourth retiring another five consecutive batters via a strikeout.
The Pirates (3-0) wasted little time in getting on the board scoring three runs in the bottom of the first for a 3-0 advantage. Lane Hoover walked to with one out and took second on a failed pickoff attempt at first. Caddell followed with an RBI single to center for the game's first run. Thomas Francisco and Connor Norby loaded the bases with singles of their own before Zach Agnos walked pushing across Caddell. Josh Moylan plated his first career run with the Pirates on a sac fly to center that scored Francisco.
Danny Beal (1-0) picked up his first collegiate win in his Pirate debut working a scoreless fifth inning and allowing a walk. C.J. Mayhue made his second appearance of the weekend with a scoreless sixth (1 H, 1 K), while Agnos was touched for a pair of runs (both earned) on two hits in the seventh. Skylar Brooks (1 BB, 1 K) and Josh Grosz closed out the contest each tossing an inning of relief.
UCF 15, Florida Atlantic 6 -

BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Knights picked up their first victory of the 2021 season on Sunday afternoon, topping FAU 15-6.
For the second game in a row, the Knights bats came alive for 15 runs. The 30 runs scored by UCF is the most in two consecutive games since 2015, when the Knights plated 16 against Fairfield at home, and scored 18 in their next contest at Bethune-Cookman.
Three separate Knights went deep. Jordan Rathbone got the scoring started with his homer to left in the top of the fourth inning. Nick Romano later went yard in the sixth inning to cut the deficit to 3-2. In the ninth inning, Ben McCabe gave the Knights some insurance runs with his home run to left field which extended the UCF lead to 9-6.
Tom Josten joined the fun, tacking on two RBI's himself. Matt Archer also had two RBI's. The walks were key for the Knights, as they were able to draw six of them.
Starting pitcher AJ Jones struck out seven in his four innings of work. After Jones, David Litchfield came in and was lights out. He went 2.1 innings and struck out five, giving up one run. Jack Sinclair came in during the seventh inning and closed the door on FAU to seal the win for the Knights.
Clemson 8, Cincinnati 7 (10 innings) -

CLEMSON, S.C. – The University of Cincinnati baseball team battled back all day long, forced extra innings, but lost on a 10th-inning walkoff to No. 25 Clemson, 8-7, on Sunday at Doug Kingsmore Stadium.
Cincinnati (0-3) trailed 4-0 after the first inning, 6-2 after four, scored three in the fifth and two in the eighth to knot things up at 7-7 and send the game to extra innings. The Bearcats got a strong outing from the bullpen who retired 13-straight Tigers after surrendering a run in the bottom of the fifth.
Nathan Moore (0-2) took his second loss of the weekend. He sat down the first six batters he faced before giving up a pair of hits to start the 10th inning and was pulled for Zach Segal. A wild pitch advanced the Clemson runners and with the defense pulled in, Clemson's James Parker singled to left center to plate the game-winning run and secure the series sweep.
Florida Gulf Coast 12, USF 10 -

FORT MYERS, Fla. -- USF (0-3) jumped out to a 7-0 lead heading into the bottom of the fourth inning, but fell in the series finale at Florida Gulf Coast (3-0), 12-10, Sunday afternoon inside Swanson Stadium.
Drew Butcher hit his first home run of the season in the fourth inning to give the Bulls a 7-0 lead and was 2-for-3 overall with three runs and a pair of walks. Matt Ruiz was 3-for-5 with a pair driven in, while Daniel Cantu also drove in a pair of runs.
USF starter Baron Stuart gave up five runs (four earned) in 3.2 innings of work. Joseph Sanchez (0-1) took the loss for the Bulls, allowing two runs in 1.2 innings of relief.
Louisiana 9, Tulane (12 innings) -

NEW ORLEANS – The Tulane University baseball team (1-2) dropped their second straight game in a 9-7 loss to the University of Louisiana-Lafayette (2-1) on Sunday afternoon inside Greer Field at Turchin Stadium.
Despite tallying 20 hits, Tulane only mustered seven runs and left 14 runners on base. Every Tulane starter recorded at least one hit, but ultimately, they came up one big hit short. The loss also was the Wave's second defeat in extra innings.
"This is an unforgiving game," head coach Travis Jewett said after the game. "I thought we swung the best today as we have this weekend and that's a good sign because we are getting into a little bit of a rhythm offensively. There's a lot of positives that came out of this weekend. We are going to have to get off the ground quick. We have to stay together and stay united."
Redshirt junior Jack Aldrich got the ball for the Green Wave and tossed seven innings, striking out six and allowing four earned runs that all came in the fourth inning.

WSU outhit the Cowboys in the contest, 11-7, but left 13 runners on-base.
Senior outfielder Corrigan Bartlett, who made his debut as a Shocker Sunday, went a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate with an RBI, while Garrett Kocis and Ross Cadena each had a pair of hits, leading Wichita State offensively.
Junior right-hander Liam Eddy (0-1) took the loss on the mound after surrendering three earned runs on five hits with eight strikeouts and no walks in five innings of work.
