Cincinnati, Memphis, Temple Earn Wednesday Wins

Cincinnati, Memphis and Temple all picked up wins in American Athletic Conference men's basketball action on Wednesday, Feb. 24.

Temple 65, USF 47 - Box Score
TAMPA – Tough defense and hot shooting propelled Temple to a 65-47 win over USF at the Yuengling Center Wednesday night.  In the second meeting between the teams in four days, the Owls held the hosts to 28.8 percent shooting from the field while making 47.8 percent from long range to snap their six-game losing streak.  Temple improved to 5-10 overall and 4-10 in American Athletic Conference play.  USF fell to 8-9 and 4-7.
 
Khalif Battle led Temple in scoring for the third straight game, tallying 22 points.  He was joined this time by three of his teammates, Jeremiah Williams (11), De'Vondre Perry (11) and J.P. Moorman II (10).  Battle also led the Owls in assists (5) and tied Moorman for team honors with six rebounds.
 
Justin Brown led USF with 16 points and six rebounds.

Memphis 61, Tulane 46 - Box Score
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — Boogie Ellis had 13 points as Memphis topped Tulane 61-46 on Wednesday night.

Alex Lomax added six points for the Tigers, who held the Green Wave to 25.9% shooting, the lowest mark of the season for a Memphis opponent.

DeAndre Williams had 10 rebounds and five assists for Memphis (13-6, 9-3 American Athletic Conference), which earned its fourth consecutive win.

Jordan Walker had 18 points and five steals for the Green Wave (9-10, 4-10). Jaylen Forbes added 12 points and 10 rebounds.

The Tigers improve to 2-0 against the Green Wave this season. Memphis defeated Tulane 80-74 on Dec. 16.

Cincinnati 70, Tulsa 69 - Box Score
TULSA, Okla. (AP) — Jeremiah Davenport made a layup with 12.6 seconds left to lift Cincinnati to a 70-69 win over Tulsa on Wednesday night.

On the next possession for the Golden Hurricane, Darien Jackson missed a layup, allowing the Bearcats to hold on for the victory.

Keith Williams had 24 points to lead the Bearcats.

Jeremiah Davenport had 14 points and seven rebounds for Cincinnati (8-8, 6-5 American Athletic Conference). David DeJulius added eight rebounds.

Elijah Joiner tied a career high with 22 points and had six rebounds for the Golden Hurricane (10-10, 7-8). Brandon Rachal added 14 points and 12 rebounds. Austin Richie had 10 points.

The Bearcats leveled the season series against the Golden Hurricane. Tulsa defeated Cincinnati 70-66 on Jan. 2.
