TAMPA – The USF Bulls (4-3) faced a six-run deficit heading to the bottom of the seventh inning on Sunday afternoon, but came all the way back for a 9-8 victory over Florida A&M (0-8) on a walk-off single by Riley Hogan to complete a four-game series sweep.
Hogan sparked the Bulls' rally in the bottom of the seventh with a three-run homer, his third three-run blast in as many days against the Rattlers. The redshirt junior drove in 11 runs over the four-game series.
True freshman Keanu Jacobs-Guishard set the stage for Hogan's heroics earlier in the ninth frame by launching a game-tying two-run homer – the first of his career.
On the mound, USF showcased eight different pitchers in the series finale. Orion Kerkering (Venice) tossed a scoreless ninth inning and ultimately earned the first win of his collegiate career. Dylan Burns gave the Bulls the longest relief effort of the afternoon, totaling 4.1 IP and striking out a career-high seven batters.

STATESBORO, Ga. – Carson Whisenhunt struck out a career-high 11 batters over 6.2 scoreless frames helping No. 22 East Carolina to a 9-2 series clinching win over Georgia Southern Sunday afternoon at J.I. Clement Stadium. With the win, the Pirates improve to 6-1 on the year while the Eagles drop to 2-5.
Whisenhunt (1-0) turned in another stellar performance and in two starts has 21 punch outs in 10.2 innings. The lefty became the fifth freshman hurler in program history to have 11 or more strikeouts in a game and is the first since Brooks Jernigan (1998) to have 10 or more in consecutive starts. On the day he scattered four hits and walked one over his career-best 6.2 frames. Cam Colmore worked a third of an inning getting a strikeout before Gavin Williams came in for the bottom of the eighth frame. Williams, making his season debut, pitched a scoreless eighth with three strikeouts and one walk. Danny Beal (0.0 IP, 1 H, 2 Rs), Ryder Giles (0.2 IP, 2 Hs) and A.J. Wilson (0.1 IP, 1 K) closed out the ninth inning.
For the seventh time this season, ECU took an early lead and this time it was on a leadoff home run by Connor Norby, a shot to left-center, for his first of the year and third of his career.

WICHITA, Kan. – Paxton Wallace continued his stellar performance at the plate, helping the Wichita State baseball team earn a 7-5 win over the SIUE Cougars in the series finale of a three-game series Sunday, Feb. 28, at Eck Stadium, Home of Tyler Field. The Shockers (2-3) win the series, 2-1, over the Cougars (1-4) with the victory Sunday.
A junior from Greenbrier, Ark., Wallace went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs and hit his first triple of the season to lead Wichita State at the plate. For the series, Wallace hit a blistering .615 with eight hits, a double, triple, two homers and 11 RBIs, and posted a 1.308 slugging percentage.
Corrigan Bartlett, Garrett Kocis and David VanVooren each collected a double, with VanVooren and Kocis also driving in a pair of runs, respectively.
WSU reliever Ryan Stuempfig (1-0) picked up his first win of the season on the mound after throwing 2 1/3 scoreless innings with a strikeout. Tommy Barnhouse earned his first save of 2021, collecting the final two outs of the top of the ninth inning.
The Shockers scored three runs in the first inning and never relinquished the lead the remainder of the game. SIUE would get no closer than what ended up being the final score in the contest, 7-5.
Houston 4, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi - 3 (10 innings) -

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The University of Houston scored four runs in the final three innings including the go-ahead RBI double from Brandon Uhse in the 10th inning to take the series against A&M-Corpus with a 4-3 win at Whataburger Field on Sunday afternoon.
Trailing by two entering the ninth, Houston senior Tyler Bielamowicz (4-for-5) launched a leadoff home run. The Cougars would load the bases, helped by a pair of Islander throwing errors before Dylan Post hit into a double play, scoring Andrew Papantonis to tie the game at three.
With the win, the Cougars improve to 6-1 on the season including taking 3-of-4 against the Islanders beginning with Tuesday's midweek victory at Schroeder Park. The Islanders fall to 4-3.
With the new extra-inning rule in effort, second baseman Brad Burckel (2-for-5) began the 10th inning on second. Uhse (2-for-5) led off the inning, lacing a double into the left field corner. In the home half, Houston closer Derrick Cherry (1-0) left the bases loaded with a game-inning fielder's choice.
Cherry struck out three and did not allow a hit in 2.0 innings. Cougar starter Blake Schultz tossed 4.0 scoreless innings, working around one hit and a walk while striking out another. The right-hander lowered his season ERA to 1.08.
Memphis 17, Grambling State 3 -

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – For the third consecutive day, the Memphis Tigers scored double-digit runs in a victory over Grambling State. After 11-run performances on Friday and Saturday, Memphis put up 17 runs on 17 hits in the finale of a three-game sweep on Sunday, a 17-3 victory. 11 different Memphis players recorded at least one hit, while three different Memphis starters drove in multiple runs.
Much like the first two games of the series, the visitors jumped out to an early lead, but once again, the lead was gone seemingly as quickly as it came. Cameron Bufford hit a one-out solo home run off of Landon Kelly (W, 1-0) in the second inning, while Grambling State (0-3) added two more runs in the third frame. Kelly settled in and allowed three runs, all earned, on four hits over five innings. In the victory, the Memphis starter struck out eight.
The Memphis offense quickly turned the tables on the visiting Tigers. Memphis struck for five runs in the second inning, as Jaylen Wilbon hit a bases clearing triple that put Memphis (4-0) ahead 3-1, a lead the home team didn't relinquish. Memphis added two more in the inning and led 5-1 after two frames and 5-3 after three.
JC Bonilla (L, 0-1) established himself after the five-run inning and faced just one batter over the minimum over his final two innings. Bonilla allowed five runs, four earned, in four innings. Four Grambling State relievers followed, each for an inning, and each was tagged for at least one run.
Memphis broke the game open with a crooked number in the sixth inning and another in the seventh. Hunter Goodman and Chris Swanberg each had an RBI as part of a three-run sixth, while Alec Trela doubled home two runs in the seventh, as Memphis led 10-3 after seven innings.
No. 5 Mississippi State 5, Tulane 4 -

STARKVILLE, Miss. – The Tulane University baseball team suffered a heartbreaking 5-4 defeat in the series finale against No. 5-ranked Mississippi State Sunday afternoon at Dudy Noble Field.
High drama ensued again as Tulane took the lead into the bottom half of the ninth inning for the third consecutive game, but for the second straight day, the Green Wave were unable to hold on to the lead, as the Bulldogs captured the win in walk-off fashion.
With the loss, Tulane drops to 3-4 on the year.
Tulane senior reliever Keagan Gillies needed just one more strike to close out the game, but MSU's Tanner Allen ripped a three-two pitch into centerfield to secure the win for the Bulldogs.
In the top half of the ninth, Tulane also was down to its last out of the game, but junior catcher Luis Aviles gave the Green Wave a 4-3 lead, as he drilled a two-run home run over the left field wall. Aviles' home run was his second of the year.
