MEMPHIS, Tenn. – With 12 strikeouts and only two walks, Blake Wimberley (W, 1-2) tossed a complete game shutout in Memphis' 1-0 victory over Middle Tennessee State Friday at FedExPark. Memphis (7-7) picked up its third consecutive win and the team's first shutout of the season. Middle Tennessee State (10-6) tallied just three hits, as the Blue Raiders were shut out for the second time in less than a week.
Just one swing from the Tigers gave them the lead and proved to be enough. Ben Brooks led off the bottom of the second inning with a home run, his second home run of the season. For Middle Tennessee State, Aaron Brown (L, 3-1) also pitched a complete game. Brown allowed one run on four hits and struck out 13 over eight innings.

GREENVILLE, N.C. – Seth Caddell's RBI single in the 11th inning gave No. 9 East Carolina a 4-3 walk-off win over Illinois State Friday night at Lewis Field inside Clark-LeClair Stadium. With the win the Pirates improve to 14-3 on the season while the Redbirds drop to 5-10.
With the game knotted at three in the 11th frame, Connor Norby led off with a single to center extending his on-base streak to 24 games. Zach Agnos moved him over to second on a sac bunt and Thomas Francisco was intentionally walked for Caddell's heroics. Caddell, who now has two career walk-off hits, sent a 1-0 offering from Colin Wyman through the left side scoring Norby from second base for the series opening win.
Ryder Giles (1-0) earned the win tossing two scoreless innings where he allowed a hit, walked two and struck out a pair. Making his first start of the season, Gavin Williams allowed one run (unearned) on three hits with three walks and seven punch outs in five full innings. He retired the last seven batters he faced with four coming via a strikeout.
Cam Colmore threw three scoreless innings of relief retiring all six batters he faced registering a career-high five strikeouts. At one point, Williams and Colmore retired 16-straight batters from the third to the ninth frames. C.J. Mayhue was touched for two runs (both earned) on two hits with a walk and a strikeout in one-third of an inning and Matt Bridges got out of a bases loaded jam by striking out two in the ninth.

DELAND, Fla. – Garrett Kocis homered in back-to-back games for the second time this season, but it wasn't enough, as the Wichita State baseball team fell to FIU, 11-2, and Stetson, 9-4, Friday, March 19, at Melching Field on the Stetson University campus.
Kocis, who hails from Omaha, Neb., hit a solo homer in the seventh inning in WSU's opener against FIU (7-8), before belting a two-run shot in the top of the sixth inning in the Shockers' showdown with the Hatters. On the season, he now has a team and American Athletic Conference-high nine home runs.
In Wichita State's game one setback, the Shockers jumped out to an early 1-0 lead with a run in the bottom of the third after Jack Sigrist scored David VanVooren on a single to left field. FIU answered, though, and gained a 3-1 lead with a trio of runs in the top of the seventh.
WSU responded in the bottom of the frame, cutting the deficit to 3-2 on Kocis' solo shot to dead-center field, but the Panthers pushed back, scoring six runs in the eighth and two in the ninth to secure their 11-2 victory. VanVooren went 2-for-3 and Sigrist went 2-for-4 to pace Wichita State at the plate in the opener.
WSU right-hander Preston Snavely (1-1) took the loss on the mound after pitching 6 2/3 innings and giving up three earned runs on six hits with four strikeouts and zero walks.
Stetson 9, Wichita State 4 -
Box Score
Against the host Hatters in the nightcap, WSU and Stetson were scoreless until the Hatters broke through with four runs in the bottom of the fifth to take a 4-0 lead.
The Shockers trimmed the advantage in half with two runs in the top of the sixth after Paxton Wallace hit a two-out double to left, prior to scoring on Kocis' two-run round-tripper to right field, but the Hatters answered immediately, pushing its advantage back to four-runs with two in the bottom of the inning.
WSU wasn't done, however, and cut into the lead again with a pair of runs in the eighth on a Wallace single and Kocis sacrifice fly, making it 6-4, Hatters.
That was as close as the Shockers would get, though, as Stetson plated three in the bottom of the eighth and held on for the 9-4 triumph. Sigrist and Wallace both collected two hits, and Kocis batted in three, leading WSU in the nightcap.
Shocker right-hander Liam Eddy (1-3) suffered the loss on the rubber after giving up six earned runs on nine hits with a season-high eight strikeouts and no walks in six innings of work.

CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati baseball team broke up Xavier LHP Trevor Olson's perfect game, shutout and no-hit bid in the seventh inning but couldn't complete the comeback, dropping the series opener, 2-1, in nonconference action Friday at UC Baseball Stadium.
Cincinnati (6-8) saw its 10-game home-winning streak come to an end as UC's first 18 batters were sat down in order before Eric Santiago sent a 1-1 pitch over the fence in left field to pull the Bearcats within a run. The Bearcats had a runner aboard in each of the final three innings but came up a little bit short.
Olson picked up the win, going seven innings, striking out seven and giving up a run on three hits. Trey Schramm gave up a walk and struck out three in the two innings of work to pick up the save.
Evan Shawver took his first loss of the year and fell to 2-1 on the season. Shawver tallied his fourth-straight quality start, going 6.0 innings, giving up one earned run on two hits with three strikeouts and a walk.

TAMPA – After scoring a combined 25 runs over their last two games, the USF Bulls (7-8) had their bats cooled off by the Florida Atlantic Owls (10-6) in a 5-1 loss to open a three-game series Friday night.
Jack Jasiak was the hard-luck loser on the mound for USF in a pitcher's duel opposite FAU's Hunter Cooley. Jasiak (2-2) was charged with four runs (zero earned) on five hits with seven strikeouts over 7.0 IP. Cooley struck out six over 7.0 IP and did not allow a run.
The Owls did their damage in the third frame when a two-out USF error extended the inning and led to all four unearned runs. Jasiak proceeded to retire 10 of the next 12 batters he faced to conclude his outing.
Carmine Lane accounted for the Bulls' lone tally with a sacrifice fly in the eighth inning. FAU scratched the plate for its final run in the ninth. Drew Brutcher went 3-for-3 at the plate in a game that saw USF limited to just five hits.

Jacksonville, Fla. – Colton Gordon held Jacksonville to just two runs in the opening contest of the weekend series with the Dolphins, but the UCF baseball team fell in a pitcher's duel on Friday, 2-1.
UCF starting pitcher, Colton Gordon went a full 6.0 IP and fanned nine Dolphin batters – it was Gordon's fourth time throwing at least six innings this year and was just one shy of his season-high strikeout mark.
The UCF offense didn't have an answer for Jacksonville starter Tyler Santana, who tossed a complete game allowing just a single run. Despite picking up seven hits as a team, the Knights were only able to push across a single run in the game. A pair of hits from John Montes and Alex Freeland combined with a Jacksonville defensive error, Josh Crouch was able to drive in Montes on a ground ball to shortstop to give UCF the first lead.
Jacksonville answered quickly with a lead-off triple and RBI single to start the bottom half of the fifth. The Dolphins added another run to take the lead in the sixth, stringing together three singles for the 2-1 advantage.

NORMAN, Okla. – Houston Baseball could not produce a hit with runners aboard, spoiling a strong start from Robert Gasser as the Cougars dropped the series opener, 7-2 to Oklahoma on Friday night at L. Dale Mitchell Park.
Oklahoma (10-7) chased Gasser in the sixth. Facing reliever Jaycob Deese, nine-hole hitter Brandon Zaragoza sent a two-run single through the left side and Jimmy Crooks delivered an RBI-single to stretch Oklahoma's advantage to four with the three-run frame.
Gasser (2-2) struck out a career-high 11 batters, marking the second consecutive week the southpaw had fanned 10-plus hitters. He tossed 5.1 innings, permitting six hits and five runs (four earned) while walking a pair.
Oklahoma starter Wyatt Olds (1-2) was equally as impressive, allowing just one run on four hits while striking out 10 and walking another. Sooner pitching fanned 15 Houston batters and limited the Cougars to 0-for-12 (.000) with runners on base.
Tyler Bielamowicz (1-for-3) started the scoring, lofting a solo home run over the left field wall in the second. The homer was his fifth of the season and extended his on-base streak to nine games. The senior has recorded at least one hit in 14 of his last 16 games.
