CINCINNATI – Louisville native Ryan Nicholson belted a one-out single through the hole into right field to cap a wild come-from-behind win over the No. 7 Cardinals, 13-12, on Tuesday, March 30, 2021 in nonconference action at UC Baseball Stadium.
Nicholson's walk off scored pinch runner Josh Hegemann from third and set off a raucous celebration in center field to cap the four-hour, eight-minute marathon. Three-straight singles by Jace Mercer, Joey Bellini and Wyatt Stapp got the rally going with Stapp's poke up the middle scoring Mercer to tie the game up 12.
The Bearcats (11-10) trailed 8-2 in the middle of the fourth and 12-11 in the middle of the 10th. It was UC's first win over a ranked foe since Oregon State in the NCAA Regional on June 1, 2019.
Louisville (16-7) showed their mettle late, tying the game up at 11-11 after a two-out double by Trey Leonard in the top of the eighth to score Lucas Dunn. UC had taken an 11-10 lead in the bottom of the seventh on back-to-back home runs by Eric Santiago and Joe Powell.
UofL's Christian Knapczyk's had a one-out sacrifice fly in the top of the 10th which scored Lucas Dunn and set up Nicholson's walk-off heroics.
Beau Keathley (1-0) picked up the win in a two-inning relief appearance. Kaleb Corbett took the loss, falling to 1-1. The teams combined to use 13 pitchers. Offensively, the teams tallied 25 runs, 29 hits and four home runs, two by UC's Eric Santiago.

GREENVILLE, N.C. – Alec Makarewicz' walk-off RBI single in the bottom of the ninth inning capped a three-hit night and lifted No. 11 East Carolina to an 11-10 come from behind win over North Carolina Tuesday night at Lewis Field inside Clark-LeClair Stadium. With the win the Pirates improved to 18-5 on the season, while the Tar Heels dropped to 13-10.
With the game knotted at 10-all in the ninth inning, Thomas Francisco singled through the right side with one out, which was followed by consecutive walks by Seth Caddell and Josh Moylan and loading the bases for Makarewicz. On a 2-2 offering from Davis Palermo, Makarewicz sliced a pitch to left field scoring Francisco for the game-winning run, which tied the home-and-home series between the two clubs at one apiece.
Tyler Smith (1-1) picked up the win in relief working a scoreless ninth inning where he allowed a hit and struck out one. On a staff day, Trystan Kimmel made his first start of the season surrendering four runs (all earned) on three hits with a walk in one-third of an inning. The Pirates would use six additional pitcher to get to Smith in A.J. Wilson (0.2 IP, 2 Ks), Garrett Saylor (0.0 IP, 2 Rs), C.J. Mayhue (3.0 IP, 6 Ks), Cam Colmore (1.2 IP, 2 Rs, 2 Ks), Matt Bridges (1.0 IP, 2 Rs) and Josh Grosz (1.1 IP, 2 Ks).

NEW ORLEANS – Freshman Bennett Lee continued his offensive surge, as he drove in four runs to lead the Tulane University baseball team to a 10-7 victory over Jackson State Tuesday evening at Greer Field at Turchin Stadium (GFATS).
Lee finished the game by going 3-for-5 at the plate and collected his third home run of the year. The Florida native is now batting a team-best .474 in his last five games. Lee also owns a team-best .381 average on the year.
As team, Tulane pounded out 10 hits to pick up its eighth win at home this year. The win also moved Tulane to 11-12 on the season. In addition, Tulane collected 10-or-more hits for the ninth time in 2021.
Simon Baumgardt and Jacob LaPrairie also had strong nights at the plate for the Green Wave, as both players collected a pair of hits. Leadoff hitter Collin Burns chipped in with three runs.
Right-handed pitcher Jake McDonald picked up his second win on the year and moved to 2-0 in 2021. The graduate transfer started the game, worked a pair of scoreless innings and struck out a pair of batters to get the Green Wave back on the winning track.
USF 7, Stetson 3 -

TAMPA – The USF Bulls (10-12) battled back from a pair of early deficits on Tuesday night and scored four unanswered runs over the final four frames to conclude their non-conference schedule with a 7-3 victory over Stetson University (16-9).
True freshman Matt Ruiz reached base safely in all five at-bats in the ballgame, and drove in the go-ahead runs in the sixth inning with a two-run single.
Stetson opened the evening with back-to-back doubles in the top of the first inning to take an immediate 1-0 lead. In the third inning, Carmine Lane erased the USF deficit with a clutch two-out RBI-single. Lane, a redshirt freshman, matched Ruiz at the plate with three hits and two RBI when it was all said and done.
The Bulls scored six of their seven runs in the game with two outs.
Jacksonville 11, UCF 6 -

Orlando, Fla. – The UCF baseball team fell to Jacksonville on Tuesday night, by a score of 11-6.
Ryan Saltonstall pitched a first inning where he faced the minimum after picking off a Dolphin. In the second Jacksonville opened the scoring on a single by Jackson Grabsky and went on to tack on three more runs in the following inning.
The Knights' first run came on a groundout by Pablo Ruiz with the bases loaded that plated Ben McCabe.
Gephry Peña extended his on base streak to 23 games when he reached on a walk in the seventh inning.
