05.30.21

IRVING, Texas – East Carolina has been selected as one of the 16 regional hosts for the 2021 NCAA Baseball Championship, as announced by the NCAA D1 Baseball Committee Sunday night, May 30.

It marks the third consecutive championship that the Pirates (41-15) will host a Greenville regional. The remaining at-large teams, top-16 national seeds and first-round regional matchups will be announced Monday, May 31 at noon ET/11 a.m. CT on ESPN2.

An American team has hosted a regional in each of the past four championships and five of the last six. Houston (2017) and 2015) and Louisville (2014) are the other American Athletic Conference teams to host a regional. In addition to hosting in 2018 and 2019, ECU hosted a regional at Clark-LeClair Stadium in 2009, and also hosted opening round regional tournaments on two occasions at different venues.

East Carolina won the American Athletic Conference regular season title and earned the No. 1 seed for the conference tournament. Connor Norby was named the American Athletic Conference Player of the Year, while Gavin Williams was selected as the league’s Pitcher of the Year. ECU Head Coach Cliff Godwin was voted as Coach of the Year.

Each regional field features four teams, playing a double-elimination format. All 16 regionals are scheduled to be conducted from Friday, June 4-Monday, June 7. Start times for each game will be determined once television selections have been finalized.
