Top-Seeded Florida Races Past Cincinnati, 19-6, In Semifinal

GAINESVILLE, Florida – Grace Haus and Paisley Eagan scored four goals each and Shannon Kavanagh scored a pair of goals, including the 200th of her career, to lead top-seeded and No. 7/8-ranked Florida past Cincinnati 19-6 Thursday in the semifinals of the American Athletic Conference Women’s Lacrosse Championship at Donald R. Dizney Stadium.
 
The Gators (15-2) built a 14-2 halftime lead, finished with a 34-16 advantage in shots and scored six goals on free positions. Florida advances to face either Temple or Vanderbilt in Saturday’s championship final as the Gators improved to 3-0 all-time in The American Championship.
 
Haus, who was named as The American’s Attack Player of the Year Wednesday, scored all four of her goals during a decisive 11-0 spurt to close the first half for the Gators. Eagen had a hat trick in the first half and scored her fourth as part of the Gators’ 3-0 stretch to start the second half, as Florida’s run reached 14-0.
 
Kavanagh, The American’s Midfielder of the Year, scored back-to-back goals 32 seconds apart in the first half as part of the Gators’ first-half run. Her first goal of the game was No. 200 for her career, making her the fourth Florida player in program history to reach the milestone.
 
Cincinnati was within a goal of the Gators at 3-2 after Anna Platou’s third goal of the season, but the Gators exploded for four goals in a span of 58 seconds to break it open. Shelton Sawers got the run started with a free position goal and Haus broke in for her first of the game to make it 5-2. Danielle Pavinelli buried a Kassidy Bresnahan feed to give Florida a 6-2 lead before Haus scored back-to-back goals to pick up her hat trick.
 
Florida’s Sarah Reznick, the NCAA save percentage leader entering the game, made seven saves and allowed three goals in 48 minutes to increase her save percentage to .586.
 
Brianna Harris had a goal and a game-high five assists for the Gators, while Pavinelli, The American’s Freshman of the Year, had two goals in her first career postseason game. Eleven Florida players scored at least one goal.
 
Cincinnati (7-10) was led by Gianna Napoletano, who had two goals. Gianna Pope made six saves for the Bearcats.
