Houston was dominant over its first tournament of the season in Norman, dropping Oregon State in four sets before taking down host Oklahoma in five sets to finish the weekend 3-0. The Cougars outscored Oregon State 25-22, 25-23, 22-25, 25-22 and bested Oklahoma 25-22, 25-16, 22-25, 14-25, 15-13.
 
Kate Georgiades registered 26 digs, six assists and three service aces in the win over Oregon State. Abbie Jackson chipped in 22 kills and nine digs to narrowly miss a double-double in the opening victory. Kortlyn Henderson hit .355 with a team-high 13 kills and nine total blocks against Oklahoma, while Jackson had 12 kills and 12 digs.
 
Memphis 3, Georgia State 0 (25-23, 25-18, 25-17)
 
Memphis ended its opening weekend at Georgia State unbeaten, taking its third consecutive match by sweeping the hosts to cap the tournament. The Tigers posted scores of 25-23, 25-18, 25-17 in the victory.
 
Miaya Smith led a balanced Memphis attack with 10 kills and four block assists, while Tabytha Toelke hit .438 with nine kills and four digs. Sabrina Bianco dished out 33 assists to go along with six digs.
 
Wichita State 3, Arkansas State 2 (17-25, 25-19, 19-25, 25-18, 15-8)
 
Wichita State battled back from a pair of deficits to defeat host Arkansas State in five sets to cap a 3-0 opening weekend in Jonesboro, Arkansas. The Shockers erased setbacks in the first and third sets to down Arkansas State 17-25, 25-19, 19-25, 25-18, 15-8.
 
Kailin Newsome turned in a double-double for Wichita State with 17 kills and 10 digs, while Sophia Rohling added 13 kills and five digs. Kayce Litzau chipped in 40 assists and 13 digs in the win.
 
Tulane 3, California 1 (25-23, 26-28, 25-16, 25-22)
 
Tulane wrapped up its season-opening homestand in New Orleans a perfect 3-0 with a four-set victory against California on Saturday. The Green Wave dropped the Golden Bears 25-23, 26-28, 25-16, 25-22.
 
Michelle Urquhart shined for Tulane by hitting at a .444 clip with 15 kills and six digs to lead the way for the Green Wave. Anna Davis chipped in 10 kills while hitting an even .600, and Chelsea Harvey added 38 assists and seven digs.
 
UCF 3, St. John’s 0 (25-20, 25-17, 25-23)/No. 12 Penn State 3, UCF 0 (25-27, 21-25, 19-25)
 
UCF closed a competitive opening home weekend by splitting a pair of matches, sweeping St. John’s before falling to No. 12 Penn State. The Knights raced past St. John’s 25-20, 25-17, 25-23, while the Nittany Lions earned a straight set victory by scores of 25-27, 21-25, 19-25.
 
McKenna Melville hit .333 with 14 kills, two service aces and six digs against St. John’s, adding two block assists. Anne-Marie Watson logged 11 kills with a .500 hitting percentage with six total blocks in the day’s opening contest for the Knights. Melville finished the Penn State match with an 11-kill, 11-dig double-double for UCF.
 
South Florida 3, UMBC 2 (28-26, 15-25, 25-22, 23-25, 15-4)/FGCU 3, South Florida 0 (8-25, 12-25, 22-25)
 
South Florida split a pair of matches on its final day of competition at FGCU, outlasting UMBC in five sets before falling to host FGCU in straight sets. The Bulls won a wild 28-26, 15-25, 25-22, 23-25, 15-4 showdown to lead off the day before finishing on the wrong side of an 8-25, 12-25, 22-25 result against FGCU.
 
Kelsey O’Loughlin registered 52 assists, seven digs and four block assists in the win against UMBC, while CC Clausen posted a team-high 27 digs. Marta Cvitkovic drilled 20 kills with 10 digs and Tizi Puljiz notched 13 kills and 11 digs. Cvitkovic finished with seven kills and three digs against FGCU.
 
Kentucky 3, Cincinnati 0 (25-18, 25-15, 25-18)
 
Cincinnati’s final match of the weekend at Dayton ended in a three-set sweep at the hands of Cincinnati. The Bearcats fell to the Wildcats 18-25, 15-25, 18-25.
 
Shannon Williams and Sarah Norcom finished the Kentucky match with seven kills each to lead Cincinnati. Armania Heckenmueller contributed 20 assists and six digs for the Bearcats.
 
North Carolina 3, SMU 1 (27-29, 25-15, 25-20, 25-17)
 
SMU lost its first match of the season to close its opening home tournament, falling to North Carolina in four sets. The Tar Heels took the victory by way of a 27-29, 25-15, 25-20, 25-17 final score.
 
Hannah Jacobs fashioned 19 kills in the match to lead the way for SMU, as Jadyn Bauss ripped nine kills to go along with 13 digs. Bria Merchant led all Mustang players with 19 digs.
 
Stanford 3, Temple 0 (14-25, 20-25, 22-25)
 
Temple dropped its final home match of the season’s first weekend to Pac-12 foe Stanford, falling in straight sets to the Cardinal on Saturday evening. The Owls lost a competitive match by scores of 14-25, 20-25, 22-25.
 
Gem Grimshaw hit .462 with 13 kills and eight digs to power the Temple lineup against Stanford. Miray Bolukbasi ripped 12 kills and finished with a .385 hitting percentage for the Owls.
