TOKYO, Japan -- Former American Athletic Conference women's soccer standouts Vanessa Gilles and Evelyne Viens won gold medals with Canada at the 2020 Summer Olympics after defeating Sweden in a penalty shootout, 3-2, on Friday, August 6.

Gilles was the 2017 American Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Year and a two-time all-conference first-team member for Cincinnati. Viens was a three-time All-American for South Florida and is the conference's all-time leading scorer.

The penatly shootout came after the two teams were tied, 1-1, through extra time.
