IRVING, Texas – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly women’s soccer awards for the sixth week of the regular season.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Emily Kavanaugh, Jr., F, Temple
Kavanaugh scored two goals in a 3-2 come-from-behind victory over Cincinnati on Thursday, Sept. 23. Down 2-0, the junior scored two goals in a 3-minute span to propel the Owls comeback.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Lucy Roberts, So., D, South Florida
Roberts led the South Florida defense that only allowed four shots on goal in a 1-0 shutout win on the road at Tulsa on Friday, Sept. 24.
GOALKEEPER OF THE WEEK
Tatum Sutherland, R-So., SMU
Sutherland picked up another weekly nod after making eight saves in a 2-0 shutout win at East Carolina. The redshirt sophomore has 32 saves in her last five matches without allowing a goal.
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Momo Nakao, M, Memphis
Nakao scored the game-winning goal for the Tigers in a 2-1 win at UCF, while also adding an assist on Memphis’ first goal.
HONOR ROLL
Mackenzie Bray, Sr., D, Memphis
Bray scored the first goal of a 2-1 win at UCF and aided the defense in only allowing two shots on goal.
Sydney Martinez, Jr., GK, South Florida
Martinez made four saves in a 1-0 double overtime win at Tulsa.
Madeleine Penman-Derstine, Fr., F/M, South Florida
Penman-Derstine scored the game-winning goal for the Bulls with 74 seconds left in double overtime at Tulsa.
Lindsey Whitmore, Gr., M, SMU
Whitmore scored a goal and added an assist in the Mustangs’ 2-0 road victory at East Carolina.
Kamryn Stablein, Jr., GK, Temple
Stablein made 12 saves in the Owls’ 3-2 comeback victory over Cincinnati, including eight in the second half to keep the Bearcats at two goals.
