UCF, Memphis, South Florida Claim Weekly Men's Soccer Honors

IRVING, Texas The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly men’s soccer awards for the week ending Sunday, October 9.
 
Offensive Player of the Week
Lucca Dourado, Jr., F, UCF
Dourado scored three total goals this week to increase his goals scored streak to seven matches. He has 10 total goals on the season, just one behind the NCAA Division I national leader. He scored the lone goal against SMU and put two balls in the net against FIU.
 
Defensive Player of the Week
Salvatore Mazzaferro, Jr., D, South Florida
Mazzaferro anchored the backline for South Florida that allowed just four total shots on goal against UAB and No. 14 Tulsa. The Bulls held Tulsa to just eight shots and two on goal after the Hurricanes entered the match ranked 24th and 36th nationally in shots per match and shots on goal per match, respectively.
 
Goalkeeper of the Week
Colin Welsh, So., GK, Memphis
Welsh came away with 10 combined saves in 180 minutes of work. He made a season-high seven saves against No. 13 Charlotte and picked up his third clean sheet of the season in the 1-0 win over Temple.
 
Rookie of the Week
Alberto Cruz Jr., Fr., F, Memphis
Cruz came away with the game-tying goal against No. 13 Charlotte, helping the Tigers stay near the top in The American men’s soccer standings.
 
Weekly Honor Roll
 
Blake Dean, Gr., MF, Florida Atlantic
Dean was instrumental in the draw against No. 13 Charlotte, helping with both goals scored in the match. He scored one goal and assisted on the second.
 
Lineker Rodrigues dos Santos, So., F, Memphis
Rodrigues dos Santos scored the game-winning goal in the Tiger’s win over Temple and assisted on the game-tying goal in the draw against No. 13 Charlotte.
 
Bram Kaarsgaren, Gr., GK, SMU
Kaarsgaren helped the Mustang pick up two wins in The American this week, coming away with a total of six saves and a clean sheet.
 
Mads Westergren, So., D, SMU
Westergren showed up on both sides of the pitch for the Mustangs, as the sophomore scored the game-winning goal against UCF and anchored the backline for all 180 minutes.
 
Segun Afolabi, So., F, South Florida
Afolabi helped extend the Bulls unbeaten streak to five matches, scoring his first goal of the season with the game-winner over No. 14 Tulsa, while also drawing a foul which led to a penalty kick.
