Houston and Temple picked up non-conference victories in American Athletic Conference women's soccer action over the weekend.

PHILADELPHIA – Temple women's soccer (1-5-4, 0-2-0 AAC) throttled past LIU (3-7-3, 1-1-2 NEC) on Saturday night, downing the visiting Sharks, 5-0. The Owls capitalized on their offensive efforts, converting on three set pieces, which included a brace from Katie Coritz to end the night with the 5-0 win. 

After back-and-forth play in the opening minutes, the Owls continued to push the pace, finding the the go-ahead goal in the 26th minute. Carly Steinberg received the ball from Moa Andersson in the midfield, launching a line drive to the bottom right corner of the goal from far range for the 1-0 advantage. 

The Cherry and White kept the momentum alive, striking again less than two minutes later. Phoebe Hollin sent the ball into the box on a corner, where Roisin McGovern looked for the tap-in. Coritz found the deflection, rocketing the second shot of the day past the hands of LIU keeper, Kayla DeTreux. 

Temple continued to exert their offensive pressure, earning yet another set piece goal. Hollin sent the ball to the back post where Jillian Allgood found the header for goal number three of the day. 

With only four minutes remaining in the half, Coritz struck again. Alexa Swetz looked for the finish of a Hollin corner, but Coritz found the deflection once again to extend the advantage to four by half.

HOUSTON – Midfielder Madison Gear propelled the University of Houston Soccer program to its final non-conference win of the season with a 1-0 victory on Sunday afternoon against UTSA at the Carl Lewis International Complex.
 
The Cougars (5-4-2) and Roadrunners (6-3-3) entered the match looking to pick up a win to wrap up non-conference action. Both teams battled the entire match testing each keeper with UTSA picking up 15 shots and Houston earning 10 shots.

Houston's game-winning goal was scored off a header in the 81st minute by senior Gear. She was assisted by freshman Alex Whitcraft, who recorded her second assist of the weekend.

Goalkeeper Haley Woodward recorded her first career shutout and first on the season highlighted by a career high nine saves.
