GREENVILLE, N.C. – SMU sank ECU in straight sets (25-13, 25-19, 25-) at Minges Coliseum Sunday.
 
The Mustangs wrapped their first trip around the American Athletic Conference with a mark of 8-2, while the Pirates dropped to 8-14 on the campaign, including 3-7 in league action.
 
SMU cruised to a convincing win in the opening set, converting 50% of its attacks, while holding the home side to .077. Knotted at 4-4, Natalie Perdue slammed home a winner and the Mustangs outscored ECU 20-9 to close out game one. Celia Cullen and Casey Batenhorst confused the defense, delivering sets all over the court, with six-different players recording kills.
 
The Pirates hung tough through the middle portion of the second game, owning a 12-11 advantage until Marieke van der Mark found a hole in the defense, evening sparking a 14-7 run by SMU. After the home side staved off two set points, Alex Glover fooled the defense with an off-speed attack that dropped between four defenders for the clincher. a pair of Alex.
 
ECU held a 15-14 margin at the media break in set three, but the Pirates failed to close out the Mustangs. Rachel Woulfe and van der Mark delivered successful attacks on back-to-back rallies, culminating in the final lead change of the contest. Trailing 24-17, the Pirates fended off a pair of match points, before van der Mark flung her 14th kill off a defender and out of bounds.
 
Memphis 3, Temple 2 – Box Score
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Four Tigers finished with double digit kills as Memphis defeated Temple (8-13,2-8) in five sets (25-20,19-25,23-25,26-25,15-12) on Sunday afternoon.
 
The Tigers jumped out to a 8-3 lead over the Owls early in Philadelphia and defended a 6-1 run by the Owls to win the first set 25-20.
 
Temple would bounce back to win the second and third set to take a 2-1 lead over the Tigers. The Owls looked to close out with match in the fourth, going up 2-0 early but back-to-back errors by Temple provided Memphis the opportunity to take a 4-3 lead.
 
The fourth frame saw 20 tie scores and 11 lead changes as the Owls and Tigers went back-and-forth. Memphis pulled at the gritty set win 27-25.
 
For the second match, Memphis forced a fifth set. A 5-1 run by the Owls tied the frame at 10-all but the Tigers were able come out with the victory.
 
Cincinnati 3, South Florida 0 – Box Score
CINCINNATI, Ohio – Strong serving powered the University of Cincinnati volleyball team past South Florida on Sunday afternoon inside Fifth Third Arena.
 
The Bearcats (6-14, 4-6 AAC) recorded season bests in service aces (14) and hitting percentage (.320) in the three-set victory.
 
Five Bearcats notched a service ace in the match. UC was one ace shy of tying the program's rally-scoring-era record for service aces in a three-set match.
 
Sophomore outside hitter Shaye Eggleston dominated in the victory, posting a team-high 11 kills at a .588 hitting percentage to go along with three aces and seven digs.
 
Senior defensive specialist Maria Tobergte and sophomore middle blocker Abby Walker each registered four aces in the match.
 
Tulane 3, Wichita State 2 – Box Score
NEW ORLEANS, La. - Wichita State fell in five sets for the second time in three days, as Tulane claimed a 25-17, 19-25, 23-25, 25-21, 15-4 on Sunday afternoon at Avron B. Fogelman Arena.
 
Wichita State (10-9, 5-4) led two-sets-to-one after a stunning rally in the third set. The Shockers trailed 21-13 before ripping off 10 of the next 11 points to take a 23-22 lead. Tulane (7-14, 2-8) evened things up on the subsequent point, but a service error and attack error gave Wichita State the set at 25-23.
 
The Shockers held a slim 14-13 advantage midway through the fourth, and were as close as 21-20 following a Morgan Stout kill. Tulane strung together three straight points out of the ensuing timeout and put the set away on a kill from Amarachi Osuji to force a fifth stanza.
 
The fifth set was all Green Wave, as Tulane scored six of the first seven points and never let the Shockers any closer than six the rest of the way.
 
Brylee Kelly led the Shockers with 17 kills and a career-high 18 digs, while Natalie Foster hit .424 with 16 kills and six blocks. Kayce Litzau had 44 assists and 15 digs. Sophia Rohling had eight kills in her return to the lineup, while Lara Uyar notched ten digs in her first start at libero.
 
Mackenzie Martin had 23 kills to pace Tulane, while Osuji added 19. The Green Wave hit .315 for the match, while Wichita State hit .239.
 
Houston 3, Tulsa 0 – Box Score
HOUSTON, Texas – The No. 24 University of Houston volleyball team used a season-high 14 kills from graduate Kennedy Warren to post its third sweep in the last four games with a three-set win over Tulsa on Sunday afternoon in the Fertitta Center.
 
Houston (19-2, 10-0 The American) has now won its last 11 games, including four three-set wins and five four-set wins. The Cougars have also won their last two games against Tulsa (10-11, 3-6 The American) and sit with a 12-22 record against the Golden Hurricane all-time.
 
Senior Abbie Jackson earned her 29^th career double-double with 14 kills and 13 digs, while Warren’s 14 kills came via a .406 hitting percentage. Graduate Kortlyn Henderson tallied a .417 hitting percentage, earning seven kills in 12 attempts. Junior Kate Georgiades tallied 21 digs, while sophomore Kellen Morin tallied a match best six total blocks, tying her career best in the category.
