IRVING, Texas – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly men’s soccer awards for the week ending Sunday, October 23.
Offensive Player of the Week
Gino Vivi, Sr., F, UCF
Vivi helped the Knights move up the standings in The American, helping UCF upset No. 13 Charlotte. The forward scored the first goal of the match in the 11
th minute before assisting on the game-winning goal in the 73
rd minute.
Defensive Player of the Week
Cesar Sancho, Gr., D, Memphis
Sancho anchored the backline for the Tigers for the full 180 minutes in two matches. Memphis allowed just seven shots combined, while Sancho assisted on the game-tying goal against No. 12 Lipscomb.
Goalkeeper of the Week
Colin Welsh, So., Memphis
Welsh finished the week with six saves in two matches and had a clean sheet against conference-foe Florida Atlantic. Against No. 12 Lipscomb, Welsh came away with four saves in the draw.
Rookie of the Week
Alexander Petraeus, Fr., F, SMU
Petraeus had a goal and assist for the Mustangs in the 3-1 win over South Florida as SMU continues to stay in first place in The American men’s soccer standings.
Weekly Honor Roll
Anderson Rosa, Jr., D, UCF
Rosa anchored the backline for the Knights against the top offense in the country and allowed just three shots on goal.
Stephen Afrifa, Sr., F, FIU
Afrifa scored the game-winning goal in the 2-1 win over UAB.
Jovan Prado, Sr., F, Memphis
Prado scored the game-winning goal in the 69
th minute to lift Memphis past Florida Atlantic.
Alex Meinhard, Jr., F, Tulsa
Meinhard contributed to all three goals in the Golden Hurricane win over Temple, scoring one goal and assisting on two more.
