UAB, FIU, SMU Earn Weekly Men's Soccer Honors

IRVING, Texas The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly men’s soccer awards for the week ending Sunday, October 2.
 
Offensive Player of the Week
Fredrik Skilberg, Fr., F, SMU
The freshman forward scored a hat trick all within the first 25 minutes in the Mustang’s 4-1 win over Memphis. Skilberg connected on all three shot attempts he made during the match.
 
Defensive Player of the Week
Philip Hildebrandt, Sr., D, FIU
Hildebrandt led the backline for the Panthers in an undefeated week. FIU allowed just seven combined shots on goal over two matches, including a clean sheet win over VCU in non-conference play.
 
Goalkeeper of the Week
Jack Hudson, Gr., GK, UAB
Hudson was outstanding in the net for UAB against No. 18 Tulsa. He finished the match with six saves on 23 shots and did not allow a goal to finish with the clean sheet.
 
Rookie of the Week
Joao Domingues, Fr., MF, FIU
Trailing in the second half against Memphis, Domingues scored the game-tying goal against the Tigers to help the Panthers complete the comeback and pick up the conference win.
 
Weekly Honor Roll
 
Blake Dean, Gr., MF, Florida Atlantic
Dean helped the owls capture their first win over UCF since 2008 as the midfielder scored the game-winning goal in the 2-1 win.
 
Axel Hofmann, Gr., GK, Florida Atlantic
Hofmann stood firm at the net for the Owls, coming away with seven saves in the win over UCF.
 
Bernardo Dos Santos Monteiro, So, F, FIU
Dos Santos Monteiro helped lift the Panthers past Memphis, scoring the game-winning goal in the 88th minute to complete the comeback in the 3-2 win.
 
Toby McCallum, Jr., MF, Memphis
The junior forward scored his first goal of the season in the 51st minute in the match against FIU.
 
Bram Kaarsgaren, Gr., GK, SMU
Kaarsgaren was active in the net for the Mustangs in the win over Temple. He finished the match with seven saves, including two within the first ten minutes.
