TULSA, Okla. -- Braylon Braxton threw for a career-high 302 yards and a touchdown and rushed for two scores to lead Tulsa to a 48-42 win against South Florida Friday night in the Golden Hurricane's home finale at H.A. Chapman Stadium.
Deneric Prince rushed for two touchdowns for Tulsa, which snapped a three-game slide and improved to 4-7 overall and 2-5 in the American Athletic Conference.
Braxton, who was making his second career start, came out on top in a battle of freshman quarterbacks as he led a Tulsa offense that gained 573 yards. South Florida quarterback Byrum Brown, who began the season at No. 4 on the Bulls' depth chart, was impressive in his first career start as he completed his first 21 passes and threw three touchdown passes with a TD run, finishing with 240 passing yards.
Prince's first touchdown run was a 10-yard play that gave Tulsa a 28-13 lead in the second quarter. After Brown hit Sean Atkins for an 18-yard TD with 1:13 left in the first half, Tulsa kicker Zack Long hit a chip-shot 23-yard field goal with three seconds left to make it 31-20 at the break.
Braxton's 1-yard run pushed Tulsa's lead to 38-20 early in the third quarter, but Brown scored on a 6-yard run before finding Jayson Littlejohn for a 17-yard TD to bring South Florida within three at 38-35.
Prince made it a 10-point game early in the fourth period on his second TD run of the game, a 1-yard dive that made it 45-35.
Tulsa wide receiver Keylon Stokes had six catches for 145 yards and a touchdown and broke the American Athletic Conference's career record for all-purpose yards (5,415), breaking the previous mark of 5,320 yards set by Navy's Malcom Perry from 2016-19. Stokes moved into second place on The American's career receiving yards chart with 3,727 yards, passing Anthony Miller (3,590) and Zay Jones (3,675) Friday night.
