Tulane's Jones, Tulsa's Young Pick Up Women's Basketball Weekly Honors

IRVING, Texas The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league's weekly women's basketball awards for the week ending Sunday, December 11.
 
Player of the Week
Dynah Jones, Gr., G, Tulane
Jones held lead the Green Wave to a pair of wins, averaging 17.5 points, 3 rebounds and 1.5 steals. Jones scored 18 points and had three steals in a double overtime win at Troy before adding 17 points and four rebounds in a home victory over Southern.
 
Freshman of the Week
Ahrray Young, Fr., G, Tulsa
Young picks up her second consecutive Freshman of the Week honor, helping guide the Golden Hurricane to two wins by averaging 10 points and six rebounds. She dropped 12 points and grabbed seven rebounds in the win over Prairie View A&M before scoring eight points with four boards against Central Arkansas.
 
Weekly Honor Roll
 
Destiny Thomas, Sr., F, UCF
Thomas tied the UCF and American record in rebounds, coming down with 24 in the game against Seton Hall. She added 16 points.
 
Danae McNeal, Sr., G, East Carolina
McNeal put together an impressive performance in the Pirate's win over Maryland Eastern Shore with 17 points, six rebounds and six steals.
 
Jasmine Smith, Gr., G, SMU
Smith set the SMU program record as she dished out 12 assists in the Mustangs' win over North Texas. It's the fifth most in American history.
 
Tiarra East, So., F, Temple
East had a pair of 20-point performances, scoring 25 points in the win over La Salle and 23 points in the game against Penn.
 
Temira Poindexter, So., F, Tulsa
Poindexter averaged 16.5 points and 6.5 rebounds as she helped lead Tulsa to wins over Prairie View A&M and Central Arkansas.
