KANSAS CITY - Three American Athletic Conference men's soccer players have been named to the United Soccer Coaches All-America Team, announced by the organization on Friday.
SMU's senior midfielder Knut Ahlander was selected to the First Team, FIU's senior forward Stephen Afrifa was named to the Second Team and Tulsa's senior defender Mariano Fazio was named to the Third Team.
Ahlander led The American in total goals for the year with 12 and finished the regular season as the conferene's leader in total points, points per game and total goals. The Offensive Player of the Year had four multi-goal performances on the season and added five assists.
Afrifa netted 10 goals and assisted on four others for 24 total points, all career-highs. He helped FIU win the conference title in their first year in the league and was named The American Championship Most Outstanding Player.
Fazio is named to the Third Team for a second straight season. The American Defensive Player of the Year anchored the Tulsa defense, which allowed just 14 ogals in the regular season and recorded seven clean sheets - best in the league.
This year's All-Americans will be recognized for their accomplishments at the United Soccer Coaches All-America Ceremony & Reception on Saturday, Jan. 14, 2023, at the Pennsylvania Convention Center in Philadelphia in conjunction with the United Soccer Coaches Convention.
