TAMPA, Fla. – The University of Houston struck for seven runs in the fourth inning and continued piling on, crushing South Florida 13-2 as part of a seven-inning run-rule victory in the middle game Saturday morning from USF Baseball Stadium.

Houston (28-15, 9-5 American), which looks for its first American Athletic Conference series sweep at 9 a.m. CT Sunday, collected six hits in the fourth including a combined four RBIs from freshmen. Second baseman Brandon Burckel contributed a two-run double and left fielder Cameron Nickens crushed a two-run home run.

The Cougars taxed the Bulls (23-18, 4-9 American) for 16 hits, tied for the most by the program against a league opponent this season. Nine different players logged at least one hit as Houston batted .476 (10 for 21) with runners aboard and .600 (6 for 10) with runners in scoring position.

The run-rule victory was the first for Houston since trouncing Stephen F. Austin, 16-1 in seven innings on March 27, 2019. The Cougars struck out just twice in the win with redshirt sophomore Zach Arnold leading the charge. The third baseman produced four hits and three RBIs while finishing a triple shy of the cycle.

Arnold clubbed his second home run in three games and eighth of the season, putting the Cougars up 2-0 in the third inning. The Bulls stranded eight runners and batted .167 (2 for 12) with runners aboard.

Cougar junior starter Kyle LaCalameto cruised through the first three innings and stranded the bases loaded in the fourth. The southpaw worked around six hits, allowing two runs alongside two walks and five strikeouts in 4.2 innings.

Redshirt junior Maddux Miller (3-0) earned the win, tossing 1.1 scoreless frames with a pair of strikeouts. Junior Logan Clayton closed things out, tossing a 1-2-3 seventh inning with a pair of strikeouts.

South Florida freshman starter Austin Grause (0-1) allowed two runs on four hits in 3.0 innings. The bullpen could not contain the damage as redshirt freshman Nolan Hudi permitted five runs on three hits alongside a walk without recording an out.

Wichita State 14, Memphis 6 - Box Score
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Chuck Ingram drove in a career-high six runs as part of a 14-hit attack, and Wichita State snapped an 11-game losing streak with a 14-6 win over Memphis on Saturday evening at FedExPark.

The Shockers (14-29) fell into an early 3-0 hole after a second inning home run from Ian Bibiloni and a sacrifice fly from Jacob Compton in the third, but flipped the script with a five-run top of the fourth inning. Garrett Kocis started the barrage with a towering solo home run off the scoreboard in right, cutting the lead to 3-1. Later in the inning with runners at second and third, Couper Cornblum hit a sharp bouncer down to third base that scored Andrew Stewart, who scored just ahead of the throw from third baseman Logan Kohler. Chuck Ingram followed by lofting a high fly ball down the right field line that tucked just inside the foul pole for a three-run homer, giving Wichita State a 5-3 lead.

The advantage proved to be short-lived, as Memphis (20-20) evened the score at 5-5 in the home half of the inning. With runners at second and third, Aaron Baskin hit a fly ball to center field that prompted both runners to tag. Ingram's throw to the plate was cut off by Xavier Casserilla, who then overthrew third base, allowing the second runner to come home with the tying run.

The game remained tied 5-5 until the sixth, when Ingram stepped to the plate with runners at first and second. He rammed a 3-2 pitch from reliever Jacob Gilmore (1-3) into the left field corner, scoring both Ross Cadena and Couper Cornblum for a 7-5 lead. Sawyre Thornhill added another run with a fielder's choice grounder, and Andrew Stewart rifled an RBI single to cap the scoring, giving the Shockers a 9-5 edge.

Cameron Bye (4-1) put together his best inning of the night in the sixth, setting down the side in order with a pair of strikeouts. He picked up the win, allowing five runs (four earned) over six innings with six strikeouts and three walks.

East Carolina 4, Cincinnati 3 - Box Score
GREENVILLE, N.C. – Ben Terwilliger tossed a career-high three innings and struck out four, while East Carolina's offense erased a one-run deficit late in the game to claim a 4-3 American Athletic Conference series win over Cincinnati Saturday at Lewis Field inside Clark-LeClair Stadium. With the win the Pirates improve to 26-18 overall and 10-4 in league play and the Bearcats drop to 17-23 and 7-7.

Heading into the bottom of the eighth with the score tied at three-all, Bryson Worrell darted home from second when Josh Moylan reached on a Cincinnati error. With two away, Worrell doubled down the left field line and crossed home on Moylan's grounder to first where Ryan Nicholson booted the ball for the game-winning run.

Terwilliger (2-0) earned the win after allowing just one hit and striking out four over his three frames. The right-hander came into the contest in the seventh and after getting a quick 1-2-3 frame, Paul Komistek singled up the middle marking the only base runner he would allow. But Terwilliger got Joe Powell to pop up to second base, Ben Newton erased Komistek when he was thrown out trying to steal second and Griffin Merritt was retired on a strikeout. Terwilliger would retire the side in the ninth to give the Pirates a series win over the Bearcats.

Starter C.J. Mayhue was perfect through four innings before Cincinnati would get runners on and eventually chase him from the contest. The lefty would work four-plus innings surrendering three runs (all earned) on two this with five punch outs. ECU would three additional arms out of the bullpen bridging the gap from Mayhue to Terwilliger getting outings from Danny Beal (0.0 IP, 1 H), Trey Yesavage (1.2 IP, 1 H, 1 BB, 3 Ks) and Zach Agnos (0.1 IP, 1K).

Garrett Harker (2-3) took the loss allowing the run in the eighth (unearned) on one hit with two strikeouts. Starter Conner Linn gave up three runs (one earned) on five hits with a walk and five punch outs over seven frames.

Tulane 7, UCF 5 - Box Score
ORLANDO - The Tulane University baseball team (27-16-1, 9-5) grabbed a vital 7-5 victory in the second game of its series with UCF (25-17, 9-5) Saturday night. Three Tulane sluggers would have multi-hit outings with Bennett Lee, Brady Marget and Jackson Linn each cracking two.

Both teams were quiet through the first two frames of the game. UCF drew first blood scoring on a wild pitch platting an unearned run. Tulane responded in the top of the fourth inning when Jared Hart hit a grounded out to second, scoring Brennan Lambert.

UCF was quick to break the tie with a two-run homer in the bottom of the fifth, bringing the score to 3-1. Brian Valigosky came in to relieve starter Grant Siegel. The righty went 4.2 innings allowing four hits, two earned runs and one strike-out.

The Wave was able to pull within one in the top of the sixth frame. Hart was walked followed by both Brady Hebert and Ethan Groff getting hit by a pitch to load the bases. Groff was able to cross home on a passed ball and two would be left on base for Tulane at the end of the inning.

Lee would start the seventh frame with a single up the middle and get himself to second on a muffed throw. Marget would send a ball to center field and score Lee. UCF would respond with a run of their own in the bottom of the frame, keeping the lead at 4-3.

UCF would walk Hart and hit Hebert with a pitch before allowing Groff to reach first on a throwing error that would also score Hart. Luis Aviles would reach first on a fielder's choice, loading the bases. Marget would get his second hit of the game and score both Aviles and Groff, giving Tulane the 6-4 lead. Zach DeVito would come in for Tulane, allowing two hits in 1.2 innings of work.

Tulane would plate another run in the top of the ninth to extend the lead to 7-4. Lane Thomas would come in to finish off UCF, who would try and make a comeback in the bottom of the frame, but it wouldn't be enough and the Wave would secure the win.
