TAMPA, Fla. – University of Houston redshirt junior Ian McMillan hit two home runs and the Cougars scored in five different innings, capping a three-game sweep of South Florida with a 9-2 win on Sunday morning from USF Baseball Stadium.
McMillan left the yard in consecutive innings, including a three-run home run in the third inning, unlocking a two-all tie. The sweep was the first for Houston (29-15, 10-5 American) in American Athletic Conference play since April 12-14, 2019, at Wichita State.
Houston outscored South Florida (23-19, 4-10 American) 28-9 in the three-game series. The Cougars, who have won four of their first five conference series, matched East Carolina with a league-leading 10 conference victories. The Pirates wrap their series against Cincinnati on Sunday afternoon.
After the Bulls tied the contest on a two-run double in the second, the Cougars scored the next seven runs, tacking on with redshirt sophomore Zach Arnold's solo home run and redshirt sophomore Anthony Tulimero's RBI-double in the sixth inning.
Cougar junior starter Nathan Medrano (6-3) held South Florida to two runs on five hits alongside one walk and four strikeouts in 6.0 innings. The right-hander has allowed two-or-fewer earned runs in seven of his last eight starts.
South Florida redshirt sophomore starter Ethan Brown allowed five runs on three hits with four walks and a pair of strikeouts in 4.0 innings. Offensively, the Bulls batted just .167 (3 for 18) with runners aboard.

GREENVILLE, N.C. – Bryson Worrell collecting a game-high three hits with two home runs and drove in four helping East Carolina to a 6-3 American Athletic Conference sweep over Cincinnati Sunday afternoon at Lewis Field inside Clark-LeClair Stadium. With the win, the Pirates took sole possession of first place in the league standings improving to 27-18 over and 11-4 in league play, while the Bearcats dropped to 17-24 and 7-8.
With the game knotted at two-all going to the bottom of the third, ECU scored a pair of runs for a 4-2 lead and never looked back. Zach Agnos reached on an infield single too short to start the frame and extended his on-base streak to a team-best 19 games. Lane Hoover followed with a single to right center putting runners on the corners. With one away, Bryson Worrell laced a shot back up the middle plating Agnos and moving Hoover over to third. Three batters later Jacob Starling drew a bases loaded walk pushing across Hoover.
Garrett Saylor (3-3) earned the win allowing one run (earned) on four hits with a walk and three strikeouts in 2.1 innings of relief. Agnos earned his first save of the season (second career) tossing 1.1 scoreless frames with one strikeout. Starter Jake Hunter worked two-plus innings where he allowed a pair of runs (both earned) with a pair of walks and two strikeouts. Danny Beal (1.0 IP, 1 BB) and Trey Yesavage (2.1 IP, 3 BBs, 4 Ks) also got work in relief.
Tristan Weaver (4-5) took the loss after allowing four runs (all earned) on six hits with two walks and seven strikeouts. Zack Segal gave up two runs (both earned) on three hits with a pair of free passes and one strikeout, while Max Bergmann tossed three scoreless frames with a strikeout.
UCF 8, Tulane 6 -

ORLANDO -- UCF used a 4-run third inning to jump out to a lead and never looked back, defeating Tulane, 8-6, to earn a series win at John Euliano Park.
With the win, UCF improved to 26-17 overall and 10-5 in American Athletic Conference play, while the Green Wave fell to 27-17-1 (9-6 American).
Andrew Sundean doubled home two runs in the third inning, while Gephry Pena added a 3-run home run in the fourth to lead the Knights.
William Saxton (4-2) earned the win after throwing four scorless innings out of the bullpen, while Chase Centala earned his second save after getting the final out of the game.
Michael Massey (3-3) took the loss after giving up four runs in 3.0 innings of work.
Wichita State 10, Memphis 6 -

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Wichita State raced out to 9-0 lead and cruised to a 10-6 win over Memphis on Sunday afternoon at FedExPark.
The Shockers (15-29) did most of their damage with two outs, exploding for five runs in the third inning on the strength of five consecutive two-out hits. With runners at first and second, Brock Rodden chopped a single back through the middle to score Ross Cadena with the game's first run. Sawyre Thornhill followed by slicing a double to the gap in left-center, plating Chuck Ingram for a 2-0 lead. Jordan Rogers scored both Rodden and Thornhill with a solid single into left, doubling the lead to 4-0. Garrett Kocis capped the scoring with a single up the middle on an 0-2 pitch, ballooning the advantage to 5-0.
All five runs came against Memphis starter Blake Wimberley (2-6) who had breezed through the first two innings without allowing a baserunner.
Wichita State kept up the two-out barrage in the fourth, as Rodden smacked a two-run single for a 7-0 lead. Rodden finished the day 3-for-5, capping strong series in which the sophomore went 6-for-13 with four runs scored and four RBI.
Ross Cadena lengthened the lead out to 9-0 with a long two-run homer in the top of the sixth, his first home run of the season.
That proved to be more than enough run support for Wichita State starter Payton Tolle (3-5) who breezed through five scoreless innings before running into trouble in the sixth. The Tigers (20-21) struck for three runs in the inning, but Garrett Kocis immediately pulled one back in the top of the seventh with a solo homer to center that made it 10-3 in favor of the Shockers.
