Fourteen Players from The American Selected in 2022 MLB Draft

LOS ANGELES – Fourteen student-athletes from the American Athletic Conference were selected in the 2022 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft over the course of three days July 17-19 in Los Angeles.
 
East Carolina’s Carson Whisenhunt was the first player from The American selected, going in the final pick of the second round (No. 66 overall) to the San Francisco Giants on Sunday night.
 
On Monday, UCF had the next three selected from the conference, including Alex Freeland (3rd round, No. 105, Los Angeles Dodgers), Hunter Patteson (5th round, 145, Kansas City) and Connor Staine (5th round, 146, Colorado). Orion Kerkering of South Florida was also selected in the fifth round (No. 152 overall) by the Philadelphia Phillies. East Carolina’s Zach Agnos (No. 296, Colorado) and Wichita State’s Brock Rodden (No. 304, Oakland) were picked in the 10th round to round out Monday’s selections.
 
The American had seven picks on Tuesday. South Florida’s Jack Jasiak was selected first in the 12th round (No. 361 overall) to Cleveland, while his teammates Brad Lord (18th round, 531, Washington) and Carmine Lane (19th round, 562, Miami) were also drafted. A trio of Houston Cougars were selected on Tuesday – Ben Sears (14th round, 415, Kansas City), Logan Clayton (17th round, 498, Arizona) and Jaycob Deese (17th round, 500, Pittsburgh), while Tulane’s Tyler Hoffman (No. 506 overall, Colorado) was also drafted in the 17th round.
 
Six of the eight teams in The American had players selected, led by South Florida with four. UCF and Houston each had three picks, while East Carolina had two and Tulane and Wichita State had one each.
