Wichita, Kan. – The Wichita State volleyball team swept East Carolina to improve to 2-0 in The American. The Shockers took down the Pirates 30-28, 25-15, 25-22 and improve to 7-6 overall. East Carolina falls to 5-9 overall and 0-2 in conference.
Morgan Weber led the Shockers with 14 kills and was paced by Kayce Litzau’s 37 assists. Kelly Brylee and Natalie Foster each added 10 kills. Defensively, Lilly Liekweg had 14 digs, while Natalie Foster had six blocks.
For the Pirates, Angeles Alderete had a team-high 13 kills. Julianna Askew (16 assists) and Payton Evenstad (13 assists) paced the matched. Kenzie Beckham (13) and Kellyn Trowse (10) came away with double-digit digs.
Houston 3, Cincinnati 1 – Box Score
Houston, Texas – The Houston volleyball team improved to 2-0 in conference play on Sunday, defeating Cincinnati in four sets (25-23, 23-25, 26-24, 25-17). Cincinnati falls to 1-1 in American action.
The Cougars had three with double-digit kills – Isabel Theut (15), Kellen Morin (11) and Rachel Tullos (10). Annie Cooke paced the match with 24 assists, while Morgan Janda had 19 assists.
Cincinnati was led by Carly Glendinning’s 19 kills, while Shaye Eggleston had 10 kills. Caroline Endres had 40 assists.
UCF 3, SMU 0 – Box Score
Dallas, Texas – The No. 25 UCF volleyball team stayed undefeated on the season, sweeping SMU 25-11, 25-17, 25-20 on Sunday afternoon. UCF improves to 10-0 on the season and 2-0 in the American Athletic Conference. SMU falls to 8-6 overall and 1-1 in American action.
McKenna Melville led the Knights with 18 kills. Amber Olson paced the match with 35 assists. Defensively, Chloe Scheer (12) and Amber Olson (10) led UCF in digs.
Marieke van der Mark led the Mustangs with 10 kills. Celia Cullen paced the match with 28 assists. Tatum Ticknor finished with 10 digs.
Tulsa 3, Temple 0 – Box Score
Tulsa, Okla. – The Tulsa volleyball team improved to 2-0 in conference play on Sunday afternoon, sweeping Temple 25-17, 25-14, 25-13. Temple falls to 0-2 in conference action and 6-7 overall.
Kayley Cassaday led the Hurricane attack with 17 kills. Brayden Hipp (18) and Avery Kalsu (15) paced the offense with assists. Marta Pecalli ended the match with 17 digs.
Taylor Davenport led Temple with 10 kills while being paced by Patrycja Zielinska’s 18 assists. Jelena Prolic and Falanika Danielson led the Owls with 12 digs each.
Memphis 3, South Florida 2 – Box Score
Memphis, Tenn. – The Memphis volleyball team picked up its first American Athletic Conference win of the season on Sunday, winning a five-set thriller over South Florida 25-20, 16-25, 25-21, 19-25, 15-13.
Miaya Smith led the Tiger attack with 14 kills. Gigi Crescenzo (12) and Tabytha Toelke (10) both finished with double-digit kills. Loren Robertson finished with 39 assists.
The Bulls were led by Marta Cvitkovic (18 kills), Amanda DeWitt (12 kills) and Ally Barnhart (10 kills). Kelsey O’Loughlin paced the match with 33 assists. CC Clausen and Maria Clara Andrade both finished with 20 digs.
