HOUSTON – The University of Houston women's basketball team snapped its 12-game losing streak against UCF 80-42, to remain undefeated in American Athletic Conference play on Tuesday night at the Fertitta Center.
The Cougars (6-10, 3-0 The American) were led by senior Bria Patterson's 18 points, who went an outstanding 8 for 9 from the field. Junior Kamryn Jones collected 14 points and eight rebounds, with graduate Tatyana Hill adding 13 points to the victory.
This is the first time since 2017-18 that the Cougars have started conference play 3-0. The loss was the third consecutive for UCF (9-6, 0-3 The American). The Knights were limited to 2 for 13 from 3-point range, and shot just 29% overall from the field (14 for 49).
Houston opened the floodgates early, leading by 24 points in the first half. The Cougars, who registered their largest margin of victory against the Knights in 28 all-time matchups, were able to expand their lead with an accurate 3-point display, with Patterson going 2 for 2 and redshirt senior Britney Onyeje going 3 for 5.
The Cougars gave the Knights no opportunities by forcing UCF 38 total turnovers and recording 18 steals. Houston entered the day ranked third nationally in steals per game (14.1) and third in turnovers forced per game (25.0).
The last time the Cougars won by 35 points or more was on Feb. 10, 2021, beating Temple by 37 points. It also marks the first time Houston scored 80+ points in an American game since Feb. 23, 2022 (80 points vs. Temple).

DALLAS - The SMU women's basketball team defeated Cincinnati in American Athletic Conference action on Tuesday night, 55-44 inside Moody Coliseum.
The Mustangs improve to 11-5 overall and 2-2 in The American, while Cincinnati falls to 7-9 overall and 0-3 in league play.
SMU jumped out to a hot start, outscoring the Bearcats 19-12 in the opening frame. The Mustangs shot just 35.71 percent from the field, but converted on 8 of 9 from the charity stripe.
SMU was led by Reagan Bradley and Tamia Jones, scoring 16 points and 11 points respectively. Jessica Peterson brought down a game-high 14 rebounds.
The Mustangs held Cincinnati to just 2-for-11 from deep and sent the Bearcats to the free throw line just six times.
