IRVING, Texas – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly women’s basketball awards for the week ending Sunday, January 29.
Player of the Week
Dulcy Fankam Mendjiadeu, R-Sr., F, South Florida
Dulcy Fankam Mendjiadeu averaged 21 points and 14 rebounds in a pair of road wins at Tulsa and Memphis. Against second-place Tulsa, she scored 25 points, dished out four assists and came down with 15 rebounds. She came back at Memphis with 17 points and 13 rebounds.
Freshman of the Week
Daniela Gonzalez, Fr., F, South Florida
Gonzalez helped the 25
th-ranked Bulls pick up a pair of wins last week as the forward averaged 10 points, while missing just two shots, and four rebounds. She scored 12 points on 5-of-6 shooting at Tulsa before scoring 8 points on 3-of-4 shooting at Memphis.
Weekly Honor Roll
Laila Blair, Jr., G, Houston
Blair led the Cougars to a pair of wins, averaging 15 points, four assists and four rebounds against Cincinnati and Tulane. She scored her 1,000
th career point against Tulane.
Jamirah Shutes, 5th, G, Memphis
Shutes had an impressive week for the Tigers, averaging 20.5 points across two games against East Carolina and South Florida.
Savannah Wilkinson, Sr., F, SMU
Wilkinson helped the Mustangs move into a tie for second place, scoring 14 points and grabbing seven rebounds in the win over Tulsa.
Aleah Nelson, Sr., G, Temple
Nelson averaged 23 points and four assists across two games for the Owls. She dropped 28 points, while going a perfect 10-for-10 at the charity stripe against UCF.
Jane Asinde, Sr., F, Wichita State
Asinde recorded a double-double in the win over Cincinnati, scoring 23 points, while going 9-for-11 at the free throw line, and came down with 14 rebounds.
