Matthew Kirk connected with Ian Pilcher for the game-winning goal in the 74th minute as the Charlotte 49ers outlasted visiting Tulsa, 2-1, in American Athletic Conference action at Transamerica Field Friday (Oct. 13) evening.
Natsuki Ogata put the Niners (7-2-1, 5-1 The American) on the board first with a goal in the first 76 seconds of the game and that score stood until the Golden Hurricane (4-6-2, 2-3-0 The American) equalized in the 68th minute. With momentum planted firmly with Tulsa, Pilcher, scoring his first goal since September 2, 2021, provided the dagger with a beautiful free kick assist from Kirk.
Leonard Stritter stood strong in goal for Charlotte, tying a season-high with five saves, including four in the second half as he faced a torrent of shots from the Golden Hurricane, who had a near 60/40 advantage in possession and outshot the Niners, 12-8.
