49ers Beat Elon 1-0 in Midweek Non-Conference Action

10.19.23

For the second straight match, Ian Pilcher recorded the game winning goal to help Charlotte hand Elon a 1-0 loss in non-conference action at Transamerica Field Wednesday (Oct. 18) evening.

The Niners improved to 8-2-1 thanks to Pilcher's score in the seventh minute. After scoring one goal in his first 41 games in the Green & White, the junior defender has notched two goals (both game-winners) in the last two matches. Although Kirk was not officially credited with the assist, five of the last eight Niners' goals have been scored (directly or indirectly) via set pieces from Kirk.

Despite the one-goal final, Charlotte controlled the game, evidenced by a near 60-40 split in possession and the 14-6 advantage in shots taken. This is the Niners' fifth shutout this season, ranking in the top 25 nationally in shutout percentage (.455).
