IRVING, Texas – The field is set for the 2023 American Athletic Conference Women’s Soccer Championship, to be held at the Premier Sports Campus in Lakewood Ranch, Fla., October 31-November 5.
No. 9 Memphis finished with a perfect conference record of 9-0-0 (15-1-0 overall), won the West Division title and is seeded first for the championship. The Tigers became the first team in American women’s soccer history to finish the regular season without a loss or a draw. South Florida (10-5-2, 6-1-2 American), which defeated Florida Atlantic, 2-1, on Thursday, October 26, to clinch the East Division crown and earn the No. 2 seed.
The tournament features a single-elimination format with the quarterfinals on Tuesday, October 31. Memphis will play the No. 8 seed UAB (6-6-5, 2-3-4 American) at 11 a.m. ET. UAB clinched the final spot in the championship with a 4-0 win over Temple. The second quarterfinal will feature No. 5 seed Charlotte (8-6-4, 4-3-2) and No. 4 seed East Carolina (9-4-5, 4-2-3) (1:30 p.m. ET). The two teams met in the regular season finale on Thursday, with Charlotte winning 3-1 in Greenville. No. 6 seed Tulsa (5-8-5, 3-2-4) and No. 3 seed SMU (9-5-1, 5-3-1) will play at 4:30 p.m. ET before South Florida takes on No. 7 seed Florida Atlantic (7-6-5, 3-3-3) in the night cap at 7 p.m. ET. The two Sunshine State schools played on Thursday, with South Florida earning the 2-1 win.
The semifinals will take place on Thursday, November 2 beginning at 4 p.m. ET and the championship final will take place on Sunday, November 5 at 2 p.m. ET on ESPNU. The quarterfinals and semifinals will all air on ESPN+.
Memphis is the two-time defending champion and the Tigers (2018, 2021, 2022) and South Florida (2017, 2019, 2020) have combined to win the last six American championships.
