No. 7 Florida Atlantic Takes Down No. 2 South Florida, 1-0, in American Women’s Soccer Quarterfinals

LAKEWOOD RANCH, Fla. – No. 7 seed Florida Atlantic defeated No. 2 seed South Florida, 1-0, 2023 American Athletic Conference Women’s Soccer Championship Tuesday, October 31 at the Premier Sports Campus in Lakewood Ranch, Fla.
 
With the win, Florida Atlantic (8-6-5) advances to the semifinals to face SMU on Thursday, November 2 at 7 p.m. Eastern on ESPN+.
 
South Florida (10-6-2) led in shots, 9-3, in a scoreless first half.
 
In the 64th minute, Michelle Horan laid up a ball for Molly Setsma to run on to and Setsma fired a shot across goal and into the lower left corner of the net to give Florida Atlantic the advantage.
 
Lexi Gonzalez recorded six saves in the shutout for Florida Atlantic, including a diving stop from a Gentiana Fetaj shot in the 87th minute.
 
Leire Herraez Gallach made two saves for the Bulls (10-6-2).
