No. 1 Memphis Rallies for 2-1 Victory over No. 8 UAB in American Quarterfinals

LAKEWOOD RANCH, Fla. – Saorla Miller’s goal with less than three minutes remaining earned No. 1 seed Memphis a 2-1 come-from-behind victory over No. 8 seed UAB in the first quarterfinal of the 2023 American Athletic Conference Women’s Soccer Championship at the Premier Sports Campus in Lakewood Ranch, Fla.
 
With the win, the Tigers (16-1-0) advance to the semifinals and will take on the winner of No. 4 seed East Carolina and No. 5 seed Charlotte on Thursday, November 2 at 4 p.m. Eastern on ESPN+.
 
The Blazers (6-7-5) opened the scoring in the eighth minute when Jolie St Louis finished a breakaway off a feed from Carlyn Presley. The Tigers poured on the pressure the rest of the half, as Anika Toth made five first-half saves for UAB.
 
Memphis tied the match when Anne-Valerie Seto powered a header off a free kick by Miller in the 61st minute. As time was winding down in the second half, Miller’s diving header off a cross from Seto gave the Tigers the win.
 
Kaylie Bierman recorded two saves for Memphis.
