UAB, Florida Atlantic, South Florida Pick Up Monday Wins

Florida Atlantic 84, UNF 75 (OT) - Box Score
The Florida Atlantic women's basketball team (1-1) gritted out a huge overtime road win against the North Florida Ospreys (1-2) on Monday at UNF Arena.

Aniya Hubbard got things started for Florida Atlantic, jumping out to a 2-0 lead, however, a 12-4 Osprey run pushed North Florida out to a 12-6 lead at the 3:07-minute mark. The Owls answered back with five unanswered, on back-to-back buckets from Mya Perry, to cut the deficit to just one after the first, 12-11.
 
Mya Perry hit another three to open the second, giving the Owls a 14-12 advantage, but the Ospreys responded on a 9-0 to retake the lead at 21-14. But just like the first, the Owls found a way to close out the half, outscoring the Ospreys, 16-7, to take a two-point advantage into the break, 30-28.
 
Out of the locker room, Janeta Rozentale scored back-to-back layups for the Owls, extending the Owls lead to four, 34-30, at the 8:30-minute mark of the third. Over the following seven minutes of clock, North Florida produced a 19-8 run to retake the lead and hold a seven-point advantage with just under two minutes to go in the third, 49-42. Hubbard scored back-to-back layups over the final two minutes, while the Ospreys just tacked on one free throw, to cut the deficit to four entering the final 10 minutes of play, 50-46.
 
The Owls battled back going on a 6-2 run to open the fourth, tying things up at 52 after a jumper from Jada Moore. The Owls tied it up again at 54 after another bucket from Moore, but North Florida retook the lead to hold a 59-58 advantage with 4:19 to play. The Owls locked in over the following three minutes of clock, producing an 8-2 run to lead by five with just over a minute to play. However, North Florida hit a 3-pointer at the 0:44-minute mark and then scored on a layup with just eight seconds to play to tie it up at 66. The Owls looked to win it on a layup, but it just wouldn't fall as the game went into overtime locked at 66.
 
North Florida kept the score within two over the first three minutes of overtime, 72-70, but that was as close as the Ospreys would get. The Owls closed the contest on a 12-5 run to seal the win and earn the 84-75 road victory.

UAB 81, Western Carolina 56 - Box Score
Tracey Bershers scored a career-high 20 points and Mia Moore added 18 to lead the UAB women's basketball team to a dominant 81-56 victory over Western Carolina on Monday night at Bartow Arena.

The Blazers (2-0) shot 45 percent for the game and had 17 assists compared to just seven turnovers. UAB forced 17 Western Carolina turnovers and turned those into 24 points.

Sophomore Molly Moffitt was a perfect 4-of-4 from the floor and joined Bershers and Moore in double figures with 10 points to go along with seven rebounds. Freshman Jade Weathersby had seven points and a career-high 13 rebounds.

WCU (1-2) shot 37.5 percent for the game and was led by Zanoria Cruz (12) and Jade Burton (10) who were the only players in double digits for the Catamounts.

Despite early shooting struggles, UAB was 6-of-6 from the free throw line to kickstart the Blazers in the beginning of the contest. Courtesy of a spark off the bench from Molly Moffitt, the Blazers made four of their final eight shots to end the quarter and a 3-pointer from Moffitt gave UAB a 21-16 lead at the first quarter break.UAB extended that lead to 27-18 with a corner three from Moore which forced a Catamount timeout with 8:15 left in the half. That three was part of a 9-0 Blazer run as UAB extended its lead to 14 at 32-18.

The Blazers ultimately shot 52 percent in the second quarter and held a 45-30 halftime advantage. Moore had 12 at the break and Breshers added nine.

UAB remained on fire out of the locker room and Bershers' fourth triple of the evening extended UAB's lead to 57-38 and forced a WCU timeout with 5:48 left in the third. Bershers would ultimately make five threes in the game.

UAB put it on cruise control on the fourth quarter and outscored WCU 16-10 in the final 10 minutes for the final tally of 81-56.

The Blazers outscored Western Carolina in every quarter and held the advantage in second chance points (13-6), fast break points (12-5), points in the paint (44-40) and bench points (21-18).

UAB now heads way north for the Great Alaska Shootout in Anchorage. While there, the Blazers play Eastern Kentucky on Nov. 18, followed by facing either Utah or Alaska Anchorage on Nov. 19.

South Florida 83, Grambling 57 - Box Score
Freshman guard Vittoria Blasigh posted a career-best 21-point effort in South Florida women's basketball's (3-0), 83-57 win versus Grambling State (1-2) on Monday night at the Yuengling Center in Tampa, Fla.
 
Sophomore center Emma Johansson joined Blasigh with a career-high 12 points and grabbed a personal-best nine boards against the Tigers.
 
The Bulls shared the rock tonight, as eight performers dished out assists. Sophomore guard Marina Asensio collected a team-leading five assists on the night, while senior guard Maria Alvarez followed with four.

The visiting Tigers were led by junior guard Douthshine Prien and sophomore guard Jazmyne Jackson with 12 points apiece.

No. 15 Tennessee 84, Memphis 74 (OT) - Box Score
The University of Memphis women's basketball team put up the ultimate fight tonight against #15 Tennessee. The Tigers battled from behind multiple times before forcing overtime in Knoxville. Late free throws from the Lady Vols would prove costly as Memphis suffered the 84-74 overtime loss.

Following tonight's game, Memphis moves to 1-2 for the season.

Kai Carter led the team with 18 points while Madison Griggs added in 16 while sinking four from long range. Ki'Ari Cain and Alasia Smith both reached double-figures with 11 and 10 points, respectively, while Cain, Smith and Shelbee Brown all pulled down five rebounds.

As a team, Memphis forced Tennessee into 24 turnovers and shot just over 36% from the field.

The Tigers will jet-set to the Bahamas this weekend to take part in the Battle 4 Atlantis tournament. Memphis' first game is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 18 against Arizona. Tip-off is slated for 1:30 p.m. CT. Coverage of the game can be found on FloHoops.
