CONWAY, S.C. (AP) Xavier Bell scored 20 points as Wichita State beat Coastal Carolina 86-77 on Thursday night in the Myrtle Beach Invitational.
Bell had seven rebounds, five assists, and three steals for the Shockers (4-0). Kenny Pohto scored 16 points and added eight rebounds. Dalen Ridgnal had 15 points and shot 6 for 9, including 3 for 6 from beyond the arc.
Kevin Easley Jr. led the way for the Chanticleers (1-1) with 16 points, six rebounds and four assists. Jacob Meyer added 11 points and nine rebounds for Coastal Carolina. In addition, John Ojiako finished with 11 points and two blocks.
Tulsa 72, Jackson State 52 - Box Score
TULSA, Okla. (AP) PJ Haggerty scored 20 points as Tulsa beat Jackson State 72-52 on Thursday night.
Haggerty also contributed five steals for the Golden Hurricane (3-0). Isaiah Barnes scored 12 points while going 3 of 10 from the floor, including 2 for 7 from 3-point range, and 4 for 4 from the line, and added five rebounds. Cobe Williams had 10 points and was 4-of-11 shooting (2 for 6 from 3-point range).
The Tigers (0-5) were led by Jordan O'Neal, who recorded nine points and eight rebounds. Zeke Cook and Keionte Cornelius added nine points apiece.
UAB 80, Alcorn State 77 - Box Score
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) Alejandro Vasquez scored 25 points, Efrem Johnson made a 3-pointer with 27 seconds remaining and UAB took down Alcorn State 80-77 on Thursday night.
Vasquez shot 8 for 16 (2 for 6 from 3-point range) and 7 of 7 from the free throw line for the Blazers (2-2). Johnson scored 18 points, going 6 of 9 (4 for 7 from 3-point range). Eric Gaines shot 6 for 12 (1 for 4 from 3-point range) and 2 of 4 from the free throw line to finish with 15 points.
The Braves (1-3) were led in scoring by Dekedran Thorn, who finished with 15 points and three steals. Jeremiah Kendall added 14 points, nine rebounds, four steals and two blocks for Alcorn State. Jalen Hawkins also had 12 points and three steals.
St. John's 53, North Texas 52 - Box Score
CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) Daniss Jenkins scored 17 points as St. John's beat North Texas 53-52 on Thursday in the Charleston Classic.
Joel Soriano made two free throws with 1:11 remaining to cap the scoring.
Jenkins had five rebounds for the Red Storm (2-1). Soriano scored 11 points and added 12 rebounds and five blocks. Glenn Taylor Jr. shot 3 for 9, including 1 for 4 from beyond the arc to finish with seven points.
The Mean Green (2-1) were led by Aaron Scott, who recorded 13 points, seven rebounds and two steals. Jason Edwards added nine points for North Texas. In addition, Rubin Jones finished with eight points.
