North Texas and Rice both picked up season-opening wins on Tuesday, November 7 in American Athletic Conference men's basketball action.

North Texas 83, Northern Iowa 77 (OT)
DENTON, Texas (AP) Aaron Scott scored 26 points as North Texas beat Northern Iowa 83-77 in overtime on Tuesday night in a season opener for both teams.

Scott also contributed seven rebounds and three blocks for the Mean Green. Jason Edwards scored 19 points while shooting 6 for 10 (2 for 5 from 3-point range) and 5 of 6 from the free throw line. Rubin Jones shot 5 for 11, including 3 for 4 from beyond the arc to finish with 15 points.

Nate Heise led the way for the Panthers with 20 points, nine rebounds and three steals. Logan Wolf added 18 points for Northern Iowa. Bowen Born also had 14 points.

Rice 101, St. Thomas (TX) 57
HOUSTON (AP) Sam Alajiki scored 17 points as Rice beat Saint Thomas 101-57 on Tuesday night in the season opener for both teams.

Alajiki finished 5 of 5 from 3-point range for the Owls. Max Fiedler scored 16 points and added 11 rebounds and six assists. Noah Shelby was 4-of-7 shooting, including 3 for 4 from 3-point range, and went 3 for 3 from the line to finish with 14 points.

Calvin Williams finished with 20 points for the Celts. Nick Anderson added eight points for Saint Thomas. Andrew Adebo also put up seven points.
