Wichita State 78, Saint Louis 59
Despite being down two starters, Wichita State slammed the door on Saint Louis, beating the Billikens 78-59 Friday evening in Charles Koch Arena.
Four Shockers finished in double figures as Jobe led the scoring with a Division I career-high 24 points, Salese Blow put up 17 points, and Daniela Abies and Ornella Niankan scored 14 and 12 points, respectively.
Temple 78, Xavier 41
The Temple women's basketball team (3-4) defeated former Atlantic-10 rival Xavier (0-7), 78-41 on Friday night. This is the first game of the Brainn January Classic hosted on the campus of Arizona State University. The win marks Temple's first ever win in the state of Arizona, and first game in the state since 1988.
The Owls dominated the second quarter, ending the half on a 16-2 run to take 19 points lead into the break, Temple never looked back. Four Owls scored in double figures (Gary, East, Molina, Taylor), this is the third time this season at least four have reached the decade mark. Temple held Xavier to just 41 points, the least since allowing 41 at ECU in 2022.
North Texas 74, Pepperdine 57
The UNT women's basketball team overcame a nine-point halftime deficit to defeat Pepperdine, 74-57, inside The Super Pit on Friday night.
Pepperdine started the game efficiently with a mark of 48% from the field in the first half, while building up an 11-point lead in the second quarter and taking a 46-37 lead into halftime.
Coming out of the break, UNT turned up the tempo and erased the deficit by the end of the third quarter. An 8-0 stretch in the third quarter was highlighted by a 3-pointer from Breanna Davis that tied the game at 43.
From there, it was all North Texas who extended its win streak to five games and improved to 7-1 on the season. The Mean Green outscored Pepperdine 47-21 in the second half en route to the 17-point victory.
Tommisha Lampkin led the way with 28 points on 11-15 shooting and added five rebounds. The senior came one point shy of tying a career high of 29 she set last season against UTEP. After posting 10 points in the first 20 minutes of action, Lampkin scored 10 in the third quarter alone and finished with 18 in the second half.
Missouri State 70, Tulane 60
Marta Galic led three players in double figures for the Tulane women's basketball team (3-4) with 19 points in a 70-60 loss to Missouri State (3-2) on Friday night on the road at the Great Southern Bank Arena in Springfield, Missouri.
Galic shot 7-for-14 from the field, hit a three plus went 4-for-5 from the free throw line in scoring her season-high 19 points. Hannah Pratt tied her season-high with 17 points to go along with seven rebounds and four assists. Irina Parau tallied 10 points, seven rebounds and four assists. Kyren Whittington recorded six points and three steals. McKenzi Carter chipped in with four points off the bench. Kaylah Rainey led the team with five assists. Amira Mabry totaled two points and six rebounds. Lily Ba had a rebound.
TCU 82, Tulsa 50
Temira Poindexter recorded a team-high 15 points in Tulsa's 82-50 loss to TCU Friday night in Fort Worth to eclipse 1,000 career points. She's the 12th Golden Hurricane in program history to accomplish the feat. Poindexter hit the millennium mark in her 66
th career game, becoming the second-fastest in program history to surpass 1,000 points behind Jillian Robbins (2003-07) who did it in 61 games. Tulsa falls to 5-3 on the year while the Horned Frogs improve to 8-0.
