UAB 79, Wagner 39
A dominant second quarter propelled the UAB women's basketball team to its largest victory this season with a 40-point win (79-39) over Wagner on Wednesday at Hagan Arena in Philadelphia.
Sophomore guard Mia Moore notched her sixth double-double of the season with 17 points and 11 rebounds, while adding a season-high five assists. Moore played 22 minutes and was 7-of-9 from the floor.
Moore led four players in double figures, and all 10 Blazers who saw action found the scoring column. Jade Weathersby had 14 points in the win and Kylee Schneringer matched her season high with 11. Molly Moffitt also scored 11 for her second double-figure scoring effort of the season.
Sophomore point guard Denim DeShields added seven points and in the process went over 500 career points. In 42 career games, DeShields is averaging 12.0 points per game.
Tulane 66, Little Rock 57
Marta Galic put up a career-high 24 points to lead Tulane's women's basketball team (6-4) to a thrilling 66-57 victory over Little Rock (0-10) on Wednesday in the first game of the Tulane Holiday Tournament at Devlin Fieldhouse.
Galic shot 7-for-11 from the field, 5-for-6 from three-point range and 5-for-6 from the line. Kyren Whittington also tallied double figures with 15 points. She also had four rebounds, three assists and two steals plus a block. Irina Parau recorded eight points and five rebounds. Kaylah Rainey picked up eight points, four rebounds and six assists plus a pair of steals. Amira Mabry recorded seven points and five rebounds. Hannah Pratt chipped in with four points, five rebounds and a steal. Chiara Grattini and Joy Madison-Key each recorded an assist in the game.
Little Rock was led by 20 points, three rebounds and three steals from Jayla Brooks. Lelani Wimbish-Gay picked up 15 points. Faith Lee also reached double figures with 13 points.
The game featured five lead changes and five tied scores. Tulane's largest lead was 10 points late in the second quarter. The best run for the Green Wave was 13-0 also in the second quarter. Tulane shot 48.9 percent from the field (22-for-45), 42.9 percent from three-point range (6-for-14) and 72.7 percent from the free throw line (16-for-22). The Green Wave totaled 27 rebounds, 14 assists, seven steals and two blocks.
South Florida 85, IUPUI 49
Redshirt junior Romi Levy collared a career-best 21 points in South Florida's (8-4) 85-49 victory against IUPUI (2-9) on Wednesday at the West Palm Beach Classic on the campus of Keiser University.
Senior Forward Evelien Lutje Schipholt notched her second double-double of the year with a season-best 18 points and 11 boards. Sophomore wing Carla Brito (10 points) rounded out the Bulls in double figures. Redshirt senior guard Aerial Wilson dished out a team-high seven assists, which equaled the Jaguars total.
Tulsa 48, SE Louisiana 47
Delanie Crawford's two free throws with 1.7 seconds remaining gave Tulsa a 48-47 win over Southeastern Louisiana in the second game of the Maui Classic Wednesday night at Seabury Hall
Jalencia Pierre's driving layup put SELA ahead 47-46 with just 0:04 remaining in the game. But, time still remained for Crawford's heroics as the Tulsa junior was fouled going to the basket and calmly sank both free throws with under 0:02 left on the game clock.
Crawford ended with a game-high 20 points and also grabbed 11 rebounds for her third career double-double. Temira Poindexter added 11 points, all coming in the second half. Southeastern Louisiana was led by Taylor Bell's 15 points.
Houston 71, Rice 63 (OT)
After trailing nearly the entire game, Dominique Ennis tied the game in the final seconds to force overtime, but the Owls fell short in the extra frame 71-63 on the road against Houston. The Owls fall to 6-5 on the season.
Ennis led the Owls with 16 points, two steals and a rebound while Jazzy Owens-Barnett added 11 points, two assists and a rebound.
As a team, Rice shot 20-of-58 (34.5%) from the floor and 3-of-14 (21.4%) from three-point range. The Owls added a 20-of-23 (87.0%) shooting display from the free throw line.
Oral Roberts 76, Wichita State 74
Oral Roberts' fourth quarter run overtook the Shockers as Wichita State dropped its fourth straight, 76-74, Wednesday evening in Charles Koch Arena.
Sierra Morrow scored a career-high 29 points, shooting a perfect 5-for-5 from behind the arc, including a game-tying three pointer with 17 seconds left in the game. The senior transfer from Miami (OH) grabbed a team-high nine rebounds and blocked two shots in her third game with the Shockers after sitting the first nine games while awaiting the NCAA's decision on her transfer waiver.
