North Texas 73, Arkansas-Pine Bluff 66
The UNT women's basketball team improved to 8-1 on the season behind a career game from DesiRay Kernal to defeat Arkansas-Pine Bluff, 73-66, on Denton ISD Kids Day in The Super Pit.
Kernal dropped 28 points on 7-of-12 shooting and 12-of-18 from the free throw line to surpass her previous career high of 27 points she had twice last season at Texas A&M-Commerce. She also collected 12 rebounds, which led all players, and marked her fourth double-double of the season.
Nine of her points came in an exciting first quarter, while Tommisha Lampkin added six of her own to pace North Texas. The Golden Lions pressure on defense rattled UNT early in the game as they forced 14 first-half turnovers.
Tulane 90, New Orleans 63
Kyren Whittington's 22 points led four players in double figures as the Tulane women's basketball team (4-4) ended a three-game losing streak in a resounding 90-63 victory over crosstown rival UNO (1-7) on Wednesday evening at Devlin Fieldhouse.
Whittington shot an efficient 10-for-15 from the field in scoring her 22 points. She also had five assists, four rebounds and four steals. Marta Galic had a steady overall performance with 18 points on 6-for-9 shooting from the field. She also went 4-for-4 from three-point range and 2-for-2 from the free throw line. Galic also picked up a team high six assists plus five rebounds and two steals. Galic helped put the game out of reach in the second quarter with 11 points and three rebounds. Amira Mabry was just off her career-high as she ended up with 13 points. She shot 5-for-6 from the field including a perfect 3-for-3 from three-point range.
Columbia 76, Memphis 66
The University of Memphis women's basketball team traveled to the Big Apple to take on Columbia University on Wednesday night. While the Tigers hung with the Lions through three quarters, Columbia's explosive fourth-quarter offense proved to be too much as Memphis fell 76-66.
Following tonight's game, Memphis moves to 3-6 this season.
Madison Griggs led all scorers with 25 points while Hannah Riddick set a new career-high with 21 points while shooting 8-12 from the field. Alasia Smith cleaned up on the boards with a game-high 11 rebounds and four blocks.
