East Carolina's Joyner, South Florida's Tsineke Earn Women's Basketball Weekly Honors

IRVING, Texas The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly women’s basketball awards for the week ending Sunday, February 19.
 
Player of the Week
Elena Tsineke, Sr., G, South Florida
Tsineke led the Bulls to a pair of wins to help South Florida capture their second American Athletic Conference regular season championship for the second time in three seasons. The senior guard averaged 23 points, five rebounds and 2.5 assists. She scored 19 points and dished out four assists in the win over rival UCF. In the title clinching game against SMU, Tsineke scored 27 points and added seven rebounds.
 
Freshman of the Week
Amiya Joyner, Fr., F, East Carolina
For a seventh time this season, Joyner has been named the Freshman of the Week. Joyner averaged a double-double with 12.5 points and 13.5 rebounds. In the win over Cincinnati, Joyner finished with 15 rebounds, passing former Pirates Rosie Thompson and Marcia Girven to break the program record for freshman rebounds. She now sits with 220 rebounds on the season.
 
Weekly Honor Roll
 
Danae McNeal, Sr., G, East Carolina
 McNeal averaged 24.5 points in two wins for the Pirates. She scored 30 points at Cincinnati and followed up with a 19 points performance in a win over UCF.
 
Jamirah Shutes, 5th, G, Memphis
Shutes helped the Tigers to a pair of wins over Houston and Tulsa, averaged 14 points and 3.5 assists per game. She scored 21 points in the road win over the Golden Hurricane.
 
Savannah Wilkinson Sr., F, SMU
Wilkinson averaged 21 points and 8.5 rebounds in two games this week. She scored 23 points and added seven rebounds against Tulane before finishing the week with a 19-point, 10 rebound performance at South Florida.
 
Dynah Jones, Gr., G, Tulane
Jones scored 19 points in both games for the Green Wave as Tulane defeated SMU and Cincinnati. She added four rebounds in the two wins.
 
Jane Asinde, Sr., F, Wichita State
Asinde had a career performance in the Shockers win over Tulsa, scoring 27 points and bringing down 12 rebounds. She shot 55.6 percent from the floor.
