ORLANDO – It was a record-breaking night at John Euliano Park, as the UCF baseball team set the program record for home runs in a single game with eight and also broke the program mark for home runs in a single season (83) en route to a 16-10 win against North Florida Tuesday night.
Prior to Tuesday's contest the single-season home run record by a team was 78, backed by Chris Duffy's 21 home run campaign in 2010. The Knights had combined for 75 home runs entering the game and added eight to the total on home runs from Lex Boedicker (3), John Rhys Plumlee (2), Ben McCabe, Andrew Sundean and Cole Russo for a record-breaking 83 home runs on the year. The single-game record for home runs in a game was also broken (8), eclipsing the previous mark of seven achieved most recently on opening night against Siena.
Boedicker's three home runs tied the UCF single-game record and it was the first multi-homer game of his career. Plumlee's two-homer game was also the first of his career.
After North Florida (22-23) struck first with three runs in the top of the first, the Knights (25-19) responded in a big way, with a pair of two-run homers in the bottom of the frame from Sundean and Boedicker. After the Ospreys regained the lead in the third, 5-4, the Knights answered with eight runs in the next three frames to take the lead and never trailed again in the game. Sundean notched his third RBI of the night on a double to center field which scored McCabe, and Plumlee launched a home run to right field to tie both the game at 6-6 and the program home run record at 78.
UCF produced a big fifth inning, scoring six runs on five hits. The first was a single to center field from Nick Romano that allowed McCabe to score from second. Boedicker followed with the program record-breaking 79th home run, ripping the first pitch to deep right field to score Romano for his second homer of the night. A base hit by Matt Cedarburg allowed him to score on Plumlee's second home run of the night, as he rocketed the 2-1 pitch to right center for the Knights' ninth and 10th runs of the evening.
The Ospreys got two across in the top of the sixth, and once again, the Knights responded loudly. McCabe ripped the first pitch of the sixth inning deep to center field for a solo home run, marking the 15th of his season and tying him for seventh on the single-season home runs list in program history. In two pitches, Sundean was hit by a pitch and Romano got his second base-hit of the night with Boedicker on deck. In a feat last accomplished by McCabe on opening night, Boedicker crushed his third home run of the evening to give the Knights a convincing 16-7 lead, marking the Knights' program-record eighth of the evening. In his first-ever multi-home run game, Boedicker owned both jacks which set program records.
Julian Balzer was credited with the win in the contest, earning the first of his career. Kris Sosnowski closed the game, going two scoreless innings and notching three strikeouts, setting career highs in both.

DELAND (May 2, 2023) – The University of South Florida Bulls (18-28) surged out of the gates with six runs in the first inning on Tuesday night on their way to a 13-6 win at Stetson University (27-18).
South Florida opened its longest road swing of the season (seven games) by snapping a five-game skid and halting Stetson's six-game winning streak. The Hatters entered the game with a 21-7 record on their home field.
Playing just 20 minutes from his hometown, freshman Rafael Betancourt (Deltona) homered and set a new career high with four RBI. His three-run blast was the biggest blow for the Bulls in the first inning against the Hatters.
Fellow freshman Eric Snow (Forsyth, Ga.) opened the scoring with an RBI-single. Drew Brutcher (Lakeland) followed with an RBI-double and Betancourt was next with a three-run home run as each of the first five USF batters reached base in the game. The Bulls eventually sent 12 men to the plate in the frame as Bobby Boser (Wesley Chapel) gave USF a 6-0 advantage on a run-scoring single.
The Hatters immediately cut their deficit in half, 6-3, in the bottom of the first inning with a trio of runs against Ethan Brown, who made his first appearance since April 14th after being sidelined with a shoulder injury.
Justin Jackson picked up the win in relief after holding Stetson to two runs on six hits with three strikeouts over 4.2 IP as the USF offense continued to put up runs.

WICHITA, Kan. -- Six Wichita State pitchers combined on a five-hit shutout as the Shockers completed the season sweep of Kansas State with a 1-0 win on Tuesday night at Eck Stadium.
This is the first time since the 2012 season that the Shockers have swept Kansas State, and the first time since 2003 Wichita State has shutout the Wildcats.
The combination of Matt Boyer, Caden Favors, Cameron Bye, Jace Miner, Robert Cranz and Nate Snead limited Kansas State (28-18) to just five singles, but had to pitch out of several key jams throughout the game. The Wildcats put their leadoff man on base in five of nine innings, and three times had runners at first and second with nobody out.
Two of those opportunities came in the seventh and eighth innings, with Wichita State still clinging to a 1-0 lead. A single and a walk put two aboard against Cranz in the seventh, but he induced a fly out to left and a double play to preserve the lead. In the eighth, Snead put the first two on via a single and walk, setting the stage for the top of the Kansas State order. He struck out Kyan Lodice attempting to bunt, then got help from a tremendous diving play at shortstop from David Herring, who was able to flip to second base for a force out and the second out of the inning. A stolen base put the go-ahead runners in the scoring position, but Snead got Brendan Jones to bounce out to second to strand both Wildcats.
In the ninth, Snead issued a leadoff walk and later wild pitched the runner into scoring position, but retired the next three hitters to secure his third save. Snead struck out Kansas State's Cole Johnson on a full count to end the game.

With the win, Memphis improves to 23-22 on the season. The Red Wolves slipped to 15-26 on the year with the loss.
The Tigers got on the board early. Austin Baskin walked to set up a Logan Kohler RBI-triple – his second three-bagger of the year, putting Memphis in front of Arkansas State 1-0 in the top of the first.
Memphis tied it up at 2-2 in the top of the third when Anthony Hansen drew a bases-loaded walk to force in Brayland Skinner, who hit his 11th double of the year to lead off the inning.
A four-run fourth inning gave Memphis a 6-2 lead. With two outs, Skinner slapped his second extra-base hit of the game, a triple in the right-center field gap to set the table for Jake Curtis' two-run home run. A Baskin single extended the inning for another two-out, two-run home run off the bat of Kohler.
In the fifth, Cameron Benson hit a solo home run to deep right field with one out in the inning. A two-out single by Curtis plated Skinner for his third RBI in the game, making it a 8-2 Memphis lead.
