IRVING, Texas – Nine student-athletes who played in the American Athletic Conference in the 2023 season were selected in the 2023 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft over the course of three days July 9-11 in Seattle, Washington.
The American’s Player of the Year, Wichita State’s Brock Rodden, was first off the board in the fifth round (160th overall) to Seattle. UCF’s Ben McCabe (262 – Colorado) and Memphis’ Dalton Fowler (273 – Tampa Bay), the conference’s Pitcher of the Year, were taken in the ninth round on Monday.
East Carolina’s Josh Grosz was the first player from The American taken on Tuesday, going in the 11th round (342nd overall) to the New York Yankees. Houston’s Josh Ekness (12th round, 353, Miami) and Zach Arnold (14th round, 433, Philadelphia) were the next two taken. Dylan Carmouche of Tulane went 450th overall in the 15th round to San Francisco, while East Carolina’s Tyler Bradt went in the 16th round (485th overall) to St. Louis. Dalton Kendrick of Memphis was the last player from The American taken, going 534th overall in the 18th round to the Los Angeles Angels.
