IRVING, Texas – American Athletic Conference Commissioner Mike Aresco has announced an internal staff promotion and the hiring of three new members of the conference staff.
Erica Holmes has been promoted to the position of Senior Director of Basketball Operations and Sport Administration. Trey Jackson has been named Senior Director of Brand Marketing. Zach Fischer has been named Director of Broadcast Services and Digital Programming, while Gabrielle Charles has been named Administrative Fellow.
“I am pleased to recognize the excellent work that Erica Holmes has provided to the conference,” said Aresco. “Erica has improved all aspects of our regular-season and championship operations in men’s and women’s basketball to provide a positive experience for our student-athletes.
“I am also delighted to welcome Trey Jackson, Zach Fischer and Gabrielle Charles to our staff. They are talented professionals who share our commitment to providing outstanding service to our member institutions and student-athletes.”
Holmes joined the American Athletic Conference staff in 2021 as Director of Basketball Operations and Sport Administration. She is primary contact for men’s and women’s basketball operations with The American’s member institutions, including regular-season polices and management of the conference’s men’s and women’s basketball championships in Fort Worth, Texas.
Holmes also serves as The American’s primary sport administrator for women’s rowing and is a secondary administrator for men’s and women’s tennis.
Jackson comes to The American after serving as an Experience Designer at Jack Porter Inc. in Greenville, South Carolina, for two years. He will manage The American’s marketing, branding, graphic identity and visual representation across a variety of platforms, including print, digital and social media as well as on-site presentations at conference championship events and media days. He will be the primary liaison with the marketing directors at member institutions and will oversee The American’s copyright and brand protection strategy.
Before joining the staff at Jack Porter Inc., Jackson served as Director of Creative Services at Rice University from 2018-21 and was a Graphic Design Coordinator for the Double-A Frisco RoughRiders. He is a graduate of Abilene Christian University with a bachelor’s degree in graphic design and advertising. He will join The American staff August 1.
“Trey’s experience as a successful creative director in collegiate athletics and the corporate sector will make him a valuable member of our external relations team. We look forward to his stewardship of our important marketing and branding efforts.”
Fischer joins The American staff after serving as Assistant Director, Video and Broadcasting at Tulane University since April of 2021. He will support the overall management and facilitation of The American’s partnership with ESPN, including oversight of the conference’s programming and production requirements on ESPN+, while serving as a liaison between ESPN and The American’s member institutions.
Fischer has won two Sports Video Group College Sports Media Awards, both for outstanding live game production while at Tulane. Before joining the staff at Tulane, Fischer was Coordinator of Athletic Multimedia at Virginia Military Institute for nearly three years. He is a graduate of Temple University with a degree in media studies and production. He will begin his tenure with The American July 24.
“Zach’s knowledge of our conference and of our relationship with ESPN will make him a tremendous resource for our schools as we continue to set a high standard for our television productions,” said Aresco.
Charles joins The American after spending the most recent academic year at Washington State University, where she was a Student-Athlete Development Graduate Assistant. At The American, she will complete a two-year fellowship that will engage her with nearly all aspects of conference office administration, including management of sports programs and championships, business operations, television, governance and compliance, and media relations, marketing and digital communications.
Charles earned an undergraduate degree in sport management from Fairleigh Dickinson University, where she worked with the facilities operations staff. She is currently working as a Graduate Intern with the United States Tennis Association, where she will assisting in the operations of the 2023 US Open. She completed a master’s degree in sport management from Washington State in May. Charles will join The American Sept. 18.
